Registered Nurse

Recovery Centers of America at Westminster

Position Overview Registered Nurses render professional nursing care to patients with behavioral healthcare needs. Perform total patient care assigned, work with clinical and case management staff to coordinate care and assist with treatment plans, administer prescribed medications, and maintain patients' medical records on nursing observations. May assist physicians during treatment and examination of patients. Specific Responsibilities Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history. Plan and provide nursing care for patients. Make nursing diagnosis of patients’ medical status and recommend treatment options. Consult with medical and other behavioral healthcare staff in designing appropriate treatment plans for clients. Administer medications and document reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications. Arrange further medical attention when necessary. Assist clients in understanding the nature of the disease of addiction and the need for treatment. Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients. Test vital signs and ensure pain treatment. Document all patient information on medical charts and follow physician’s written orders. Maintain patient confidentiality. Maintain accurate records and documentation of patient treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results according to standard medical record‑keeping. Provide courteous, high‑quality service to patients and members of the public by responding to requests for service or making appropriate referrals in a timely manner. Charge RN Responsibilities Prepare assignment sheets for the shift and communicate them to staff, including staff assignments and breaks. Hold full responsibility for overall community management, ensuring a safe and efficient shift flow. Hold staff accountable to their assignments and provide feedback and mentoring as needed. Accept call‑out notifications from staff and follow all necessary steps to find coverage and ensure adequate staffing for the shift. Report a patient’s progress, special circumstances, and concerns to the doctor or the AOC as needed. Serve as the main contact/supervisor for employees/emergencies in the facility. Meet with management to discuss personnel and administrative issues and solve problems among staff. Inform staff of changes in protocols and procedures. Prioritize and adapt during emergencies. Education and Experience Up to date and active State Nursing license is required. Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Nursing is preferred. Previous experience in behavioral healthcare is strongly preferred. Knowledge of health care, detoxification process, addiction, co‑occurring disorders, DSM criteria, and terminology. Ability to read and interpret written information, write clearly and informatively, and edit work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively, listen, and respond well to questions; demonstrate group presentation skills and participate in meetings. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the facility’s proprietary systems. Decision Making: Uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions, acts consistently with facts, constraints, and anticipated consequences. Collaboration: Works collaboratively with other health professionals and leaders from other disciplines. Work Environment The role operates in professional office and clinical settings, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level is usually moderate. Registered nurses may work in hospitals, clinics, schools, rehabilitation centers, outpatient and mental health facilities, ambulatory care centers, and private physician’s clinics, as well as community centers, schools, and patients' homes. The position may require working long hours, including weekends, holidays, and night shifts. Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. Physical Demands for Registered Nurses Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. and over (intermittently); carrying up to 45 lbs. (intermittently); repeated bending, straight pulling and pushing up to 45 lbs. (intermittently); stooping, squatting, kneeling, and use of both arms and hands intermittently; overhead work; prolonged walking up to 4 hours/day; prolonged standing up to 4 hours/day; sitting up to 2 hours/day; near and distant vision requirements; and the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
