About our Program: TRUST Mobile Mental Health Evaluation Team that handles psychiatric emergencies for adults with psychiatric or behavioral distress. The program includes a crisis hotline, mobile mental‑health response, and follow‑up services. Schedule Thursday–Saturday, 7 am to 8 pm, 12‑hour shifts. The position is part of an Alternative Work Schedule (AWS) that allows up to 12‑hour shifts within a 40‑hour work week without overtime premium until the 12th hour. Job Summary Within a team process, the role develops a strength‑based relationship with clients during a mental health or behavioral crisis, intervening with individuals presenting agitation, aggression, active psychosis, suicidal ideation, or self‑injury. The position requires shift‑based work responding to community or crisis‑stabilization‑unit requests, occasionally joint response with law enforcement, including screening for dangerous situations, weapons, and other high‑risk environmental factors. Responsibilities include crisis de‑escalation, stabilization, and may require restraint certification. Responsibilities Support the mental health crisis hotline by gathering information, supporting callers, and identifying needs related to the current crisis situation; provide phone stabilization and resources as needed. Provide crisis assessment and de‑escalation for adults or youth experiencing an acute mental health or behavioral crisis who may pose a danger to themselves or others. Participate in information gathering and decision making related to involuntary psychiatric holds under Lanterman‑Petris‑Short laws and regulations. Provide direct billable mental‑health services, document in alignment with MediCal regulations, and meet productivity expectations. Engage and support family members and other natural supports during an acute psychiatric crisis, including psychoeducation on de‑escalation strategies and steps to secure home environments (weapons, dangerous items, substances). Facilitate transport of individuals on 5150 holds, providing clinical information to accepting hospitals or CSU/other psychiatric facilities, and remain with the client until transport arrival. Assist individuals with identifying triggers, unmet needs, psychosocial factors that contribute to ongoing acute mental health crises; use a strengths‑based approach to develop a comprehensive risk‑management and safety plan. Provide linkage, referrals, and resources in the community based on identified needs, including mental‑health services, substance‑use services, housing supports, and other social services. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (two years of relevant experience equals one year of education). Language skills may be required; ability to speak, read, and/or write another language may be necessary by some programs or areas. Must pass an initial Physical Ability Test (PATS) and be certified in crisis intervention techniques within the first 30 days and annually. Must maintain a clear criminal record; all employees are responsible for keeping job requirements up to date, which may include mandatory mandatory certifications and licensure. Duties include standing, walking, sitting, using hands to handle or feel objects, reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. Must also be able to move quickly/run and drive a car. Additional tests may be required: Human Performance Evaluation Test (lifting, pushing/pulling, repetitive coupling, static weight, etc.) and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Driving is required; unsupervised contact with children, full background check and TB exam are required.
