OVERVIEW :

Under the supervision of the County Comptroller, performs complex and specialized accounting work that supports county-wide financial activities and often requires the exercise of independent judgment.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES :

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class.)

Works in the Accounts Payable area of the Clerk/Auditor's Office.

Verify the accuracy of vendor invoices and confirm that the correct general ledger account codes are used.

Processes requisitions and invoices for payment; matches receiving documents from county departments to invoices, contracts, and purchase orders.

Generates payments to vendors on a routine schedule and matches checks with backup.

Answers incoming telephone calls from vendors and department personnel pertaining to the Accounts Payable operation.

Reviews purchase card transactions for compliance with county policies.

Reconciles various reports generated by others for accuracy of receipts, disbursements, and/or calculations.

Composes and processes routine correspondence, reports, forms, billings, payments, and other materials as requested and managed by the supervisor.

Designs, updates, and improves written policies and procedures related to assigned areas.

Reconciles complex and detailed statements, including purchasing card and travel reports.

Compiles data from multiple sources into summary form and prepares electronic data files for processing in the accounting system.

Performs independent research on various financial and technical topics as assigned.

Provides technical training and assistance to others.

Performs other duties as assigned.

ABOUT YOU :

Education: Equivalent of associate degree or certificate in accounting, finance, or related field from an accredited college or university, with at least fifteen hours of course work in accounting,

Experience: Three to five years of full-time experience in accounting or bookkeeping including accounts payable and/or accounts receivable responsibilities,

Or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge: Working knowledge of the principles and procedures of accounting; working knowledge of research methods and statistical analysis; working knowledge of modern office methods, practices, procedures, and equipment; working knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Skills: Typing at 40 wpm net; skill in the operation of a computer and computer software, 10-key by touch, and various office equipment.

Abilities: Ability to apply modern accounting principles and procedures to government situations; ability to perform complex financial work requiring moderate exercise of independent judgment; ability to make mathematical computations rapidly and accurately; ability to handle stressful situations; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to make judgments in different situations and act in the best interest of the tax payer; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the general public.
