Survey Technician / Entry-Level Surveyor

Job Summary
Seeking a motivated Survey Technician to support field operations on transportation, municipal, utility, land development, and infrastructure projects throughout Southeast Michigan. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, wants to learn the surveying profession, and is interested in building a long-term career in surveying. Previous surveying experience is helpful but not required for the right candidate.
Responsibilities

• Assist with construction staking, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and data collection.
• Work alongside experienced Survey Crew Chiefs on a variety of field projects.
• Operate GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, and other survey equipment.
• Collect accurate field measurements and maintain survey records.
• Support stakeout activities for roads, utilities, site development, and infrastructure projects.
• Maintain survey equipment, vehicles, and field documentation.
• Travel locally to project sites throughout Metro Detroit.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Interest in surveying, construction, engineering, or outdoor field work.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to lift and carry survey equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Surveying, Civil Technology, Construction Management, Engineering, or related coursework.
• Experience with GPS equipment, total stations, or construction layout.
• Experience reading plans and construction drawings.
• Interest in pursuing survey certifications or long-term advancement in the surveying field.

The focus is finding someone with the right attitude, reliability, and willingness to grow rather than requiring extensive prior experience.
Location: Southeast Michigan
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday - 45-55 hours
Travel: Local travel only, minimal overnight travel

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
