Registered Nurse

A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit and promoting personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. Applying the caring processes of a recognized model of care, the RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. The RN utilizes educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring or precepting staff.

Responsibilities:

• Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition.
• Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions.
• Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care, reviewing and revising it as indicated.
• Collaborates with patient/family and interdisciplinary services.
• Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the patient and family.
• Monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions.
• Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs.
• Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
• Functions as a mentor/preceptor to staff.
• Demonstrates, encourages, and facilitates teamwork within the unit.
• Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement.
• Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts.
• Implements practice changes in compliance with regulatory standards.
