Operations Support Specialist

The Operations Support Specialist is a part of the operations team and is responsible for assisting the Superintendent as directed during the operations of discharge, load, and departure of assigned transportation, guaranteeing quality, security, safety, and efficiency in accordance with relevant operational and technical parameters. In addition, the Operations Support Specialist is responsible for assisting the Shop Foreman in his duties as determined by the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities include:

• Working closely with terminal staff while handling cargo as directed safely and in a manner to complete tasks according to plans.
• Ensuring that all required personnel are wearing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as safety vests, safety toe boots, safety glasses, and protective hard hats when applicable, and reporting any violations to the Superintendent.
• Assisting in the investigation and reporting of damages and liabilities to the appropriate management and authorities.
• Supporting, monitoring, and troubleshooting, when necessary, ensuring data is accurate and informing terminal staff of any discrepancies.
• Reporting problems and issues to the appropriate Manager of the operation.
• Understanding and adhering to safety procedures while implementing plans to address safety hazards.
• Assisting the Superintendent and Shop Foreman to assure proper communication between all parties, vessels, customers, agents, and labor, as directed.
• Reporting any deviation from company policies and procedures to the appropriate manager.
• Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications include:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 2 years' experience operating powered industrial truck-type equipment.
• Basic knowledge or principles of terminal operations.
• Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
• Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability are strongly desired.
• Problem-solving skills to respond quickly and effectively to operational issues.
• Ability to follow instructions in a fast-paced environment and be available to work varied hours and days.

Work environment includes:

• Ability to work in rotating shifts, days, evenings, and nights.
• Ability to work in extreme outdoor temperatures of hot and cold, extremely dusty conditions, and occasionally, conditions of high levels of noise.
• Ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast-moving equipment.
• Ability to drive 50%.
• Ability to operate various types of equipment.
