POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach will support the Head Coach in all aspects of the wrestling program. This includes helping develop student athlete skills, promoting sportsmanship, and ensuring a safe, positive, and competitive environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in planning and conducting daily practices Instruct athletes in fundamental and advanced wrestling techniques Support the development of strength, conditioning, and endurance programs Supervise student athletes during practices, competitions, and team events Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect Assist with match preparation, including scouting opponents and developing strategies Help manage equipment, uniforms, and facilities Ensure compliance with school, district, and athletic association policies Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school staff Support academic success and monitor student eligibility Commitment to regular and predictable attendance Adherence to Greenville Public Schools core values: integrity, collaboration, compassion, and responsibility

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Previous wrestling or coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred Knowledge of wrestling rules, techniques, and safety practices Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to build positive relationships with students Knowledge of MHSAA policies preferred Satisfactory background check

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must be able to: Stand for extended periods during practices and matches Sit for extended periods on buses for away matches and tournaments Perform and demonstrate wrestling techniques and drills Move up and down the mat, observe players, and actively engage with them React quickly in fast-paced game play and to ensure player safety Lift and move training gear and other equipment (typically up to 25-50 lbs) Project voice loudly and clearly in noisy environments Maintain composure under stress The above is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of this position.
