Police Officer (Police Academy Graduate/Lateral Officer)

Position Overview The Central Marin Police Authority is recruiting Academy Graduate and Lateral Police Officers. A signing bonus of $30,000 is offered to graduates of a POST certified California police academy and lateral entry officers. The position includes a competitive base salary and a comprehensive benefits package. Responsibilities Patrol assigned area in a police vehicle, on a motorcycle, or on foot. Enforce local, state, and federal laws. Respond to calls related to protection of life and property, traffic incidents, and other emergencies. Check business and residential areas to prevent criminal activity. Conduct preliminary and follow‑up investigations of disturbances, criminal incidents, hazardous incidents, accidents, deaths, and other incidents of an information or criminal nature. Make arrests, interrogate suspects, interview witnesses, coordinate and conduct detailed investigations of violent crimes, child abuse, property crimes, vice, gaming, narcotics violations, and other crimes. Testify and present evidence in court; provide backup assistance for other officers and personnel. Collect, preserve, and maintain evidence, found property, and property for safekeeping. Assist and advise motorists, enforce traffic safety laws by issuing citations and warnings. Search, fingerprint, transport, and book prisoners. Respond to demonstrations, riots, hostage situations, barricaded subjects and other extremely hazardous situations. Maintain contact with the public regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserve good relationships with the public. Serve warrants and subpoenas. Observe, monitor, direct, and control routine and unusual traffic conditions. Check buildings for physical security; administer first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed. Attend fire scenes to assist in the protection of life and property. Prepare reports of arrests made, investigations conducted, and unusual incidents observed. Operate electronic and emergency communication devices and equipment in the field, in patrol vehicle, or in the office. Give information and directions to the public. Perform duties as a Designated Disaster Service Worker as required. Undertake additional duties such as undercover and surveillance activities, preparing search and arrest warrants, cooperating with other agencies, presenting to citizens, coordinating training programs, managing caseloads of registered sex offenders, providing training, collecting gang information, and directing traffic at events. Other tasks as assigned. Qualifications Ability to: read and understand departmental policies, analyze situations, prepare clear reports, maintain a professional demeanor, demonstrate proficiency with firearms and defensive tactics, handle emergency situations, communicate effectively, and uphold the law enforcement code of ethics. Experience and Education: High school diploma or GED. Sixty college semester units preferable. Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities is acceptable. Age and Physical Standards: Minimum age 21; meet weight, vision (20/40 uncorrected or 20/20 corrected in better eye, 20/30 in other eye), hearing, and color vision requirements. License and Certification: Valid California driver’s license and California POST Basic certificate required upon hire. Benefits Health care through Kaiser Bay Area rates and additional plans.
