Credit Manager

Position Description Purpose The Credit Manager is accountable for the entire credit granting process, including the consistent application of a credit policy, periodic credit reviews of existing customers, and the assessment of the creditworthiness of potential customers, with the goal of optimizing the mix of company sales and bad debt losses. Specifically, develops and recommends policies and procedures that govern the credit and collection activities of the company. Supervises the investigation of credit risks involving customers, vendors and suppliers and the collection of amounts due to the company for construction service and material sales. Responsible for maintaining communication, both verbal and written on a timely basis. Focus & Scope Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below: Develops and oversees credit and accounts receivable strategies for the organization. Specifically organizes and leads cross-functional team(s) to implement, monitor and manage credit and accounts receivable strategies and initiatives. Provide subject matter expertise while working with business units and senior management in negotiation of vendor contracts. Studies and develops policies and procedures to be used in investigating, granting and controlling credit and in collecting amounts due. Prepares timely reports related to the status of credit and collections as required by operation and management. Determines the amount of credit to be extended and recommends reserves against bad debts. Analyzes, recommends and completes annual write off of bad debts against reserves. Supervises, approves and investigates credit standing of new customers. Arranges terms of payment and follows up on collection of accounts. Participates and represents the company in credit groups, bankruptcy groups and related industry activities. Interact with Union Trust Funds, Lenders and Sureties. Initiates and negotiates agreements with necessary credit reporting agencies. Supervises and approves adjustment of customer claims in conjunction with the sales group. Communicate with potential and existing customers related to investigating credit and collection matters. Foster good credit relationships between customer and company. Assist in indoctrinating sales representatives in company credit policies and procedures. Sets and monitors standards for timely processing of invoices, cash application and balancing of deposits. Assists operations and accounts payable as required with subcontractors/subcontracts issues. Coordinate Escrows involving securities-in-lien of retentions and customer payments in exchange for release of rights. Assists Operations and FAST with contract and purchase orders including negotiation of terms and conditions. Prepares and Coordinates legal documents related to credit and collection activates including litigation and mediations with settlement authority. Prepares annual and departmental budget and prepares quarterly reviews and projections. Approve department expenditures against the approved budget. Reviews and processes Vendor Credit Applications requiring a corporate signature. Assist Operations relating to reviewing Subcontractors and Vendors for financial strength and contract language. Builds and sustains effective business partnerships with internal clients. Maintains a customer focus through communication and understanding the line of business needs. Improves end user understanding and commitment to corporate credit policies and industry best practices. Works with subject matter specialists to gather and assess business requirements. Monitors and maximizes customer satisfaction using standardized reporting metrics. Assumes responsibility for productivity of staff. Maximizes employee performance and professional growth. Specifically, provides vision and direction to function as a cohesive unit; oversees regularly planned meetings; develops staff by evaluating performance, providing coaching, training, and mentoring opportunities. Oversees and is responsible for technology enhancements to create efficiencies and productivity for all areas under the jurisdiction of the Credit Manager. Responsible for internal administrative organization and documentation, including systems and infrastructure for the function. Has ultimate responsibility for completion of necessary administrative activities, such as preparation and maintenance of logs, documentation files, records, reports pertaining to business unit activities, and written Credit and Accounts Receivable manuals. Relationships, Qualifications and Requirements, & Competencies Key Relationships Reports To: Director of Financial Risk Management Direct Reports: Credit Analysts, Credit Administrator, Accounts Receivable Clerks, Accounts Receivable Specialists External Clients: Legal Experts, Suppliers, Vendors, Subcontractors Internal Clients: Executive Team, Finance & Accounting, Construction Project Procurement (Estimating), Sales Managers and Representatives, Information Services and various Matrix Partner Managers and Specialists and Line of Business Experts Role Qualifications & Requirements Education Bachelor's degree in Business/Finance or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience. Experience and Industry Expertise Minimum of 10 years' experience leading credit/accounts receivable strategies of least $100 million Experience in credit scoring systems Experience supervising others. Specific Job Requirements Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation Current on all company required safety and regulatory training Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interest Thorough knowledge of credit-related laws and construction laws, including Mechanic's liens Comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end credit process Excellent understanding of the construction and materials industries, particularly in infrastructure/heavy construction and construction material sales Excellent credit strategy and negotiation skills Ability to build and lead cross-functional teams Strong ability using rigorous logic and sound reasoning to solve difficult problems Ability to plan and manage projects within area of responsibility Ability to perform credit-related financial analyses in determining credit amounts to extend or debt write-off amounts against reserves Driven to meeting or exceeding business and financial milestones Excellent judgment and decision-making Demonstrated ability to persuade and influence senior leaders across departments Strong communication skills: verbal, written, presentation, facilitation and listening Ability to collaboratively develop and engage others in a commitment to credit strategy, values and goals Strong focus on customer satisfaction Ability to interpret, summarize and communicate complex reports, analysis and information to others in a way that is easily understood Strong time management skill Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Competencies Building Relationships Conflict Resolution Planning/Prioritizing Initiative Dependability Judgement/Decision Making Managerial Courage Developing Others Equipment Used, Physical Demands, and Work Environment Equipment Used General office equipment, telephone, automobile, personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses, hearing protection) when visiting plants. BASE SALARY RANGE $136,000.00 - $175,000.00 The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
