Nuevo Field Campaigns is a 100% minority-owned firm that builds direct voter contact and community engagement programs for Democratic campaigns, organizations, advocacy groups, and committees. Our programs have mobilized hundreds of canvassers, knocked millions of doors, registered voters, cured ballots, and collected signatures in support of winning campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels.

Alongside that field infrastructure, Nuevo Field builds the advocacy and visibility work that makes campaign contact land: grasstops relationships with elected officials, coalition and community leaders, and institutional stakeholders, and a consistent public presence in the community spaces our clients need to reach.

Position Overview

Nuevo Field Campaigns is seeking an experienced, driven, and highly organized State Organizing Director to lead advocacy, community visibility, and grasstops organizing programs within an assigned state through the 2026 election cycle.

This is still a direct voter contact role carrying a candidate message, but it is not a traditional canvass. Instead of door-to-door contact built around voter-file data collection, the State Organizing Director leads "hot-spotting" programs: identifying and staffing high-traffic community locations, such as events, markets, transit hubs, and cultural and civic spaces, where teams talk directly with voters, deliver the candidate's message, and hand out materials.

The State Organizing Director will oversee all in-state operations, including hot-spotting deployment, community visibility efforts, coalition and grasstops relationship-building, and issue advocacy programs. Working closely with the National Field Director and company leadership, this position will ensure programs are executed on time, on budget, and at the highest quality standards while serving as the primary operational and advocacy leader within their assigned state.

Remote work may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Preference will be given to candidates whose residence is in one of our program locations.

Relationship to the National Field Director

This position reports directly to the National Field Director and serves as the senior operational and advocacy leader within an assigned state. State Directors are responsible for executing statewide grasstops and visibility strategy, managing staff and client relationships, and ensuring all programs are delivered according to Nuevo Field Campaigns' standards, while partnering closely with the National Field Director on overall strategy, resource allocation, and organizational priorities.

Responsibilities

Statewide Advocacy & Hot-Spotting Strategy

• Lead the planning, launch, and execution of hot-spotting and community visibility programs throughout an assigned state.
• Identify and secure high-traffic, culturally relevant locations, events, and gathering points for direct voter contact and material distribution.
• Develop regional deployment plans, staffing structures, timelines, and message-delivery benchmarks.
• Monitor daily program goals, staff productivity, and the quality of voter conversations and candidate message delivery.
• Ensure compliance with campaign, labor, and organizational requirements.
• Provide regular reporting and operational updates to the National Field Director and company leadership.
• Coordinate multiple simultaneous projects within the state while maintaining consistent quality and message discipline.

Grasstops & Coalition Relationship Management

• Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, community leaders, faith and cultural institutions, and coalition partners across the state.
• Represent clients at community events, coalition meetings, and public forums to raise the organization's and clients' visibility.
• Identify and cultivate grasstops messengers and credible validators for candidate and issue messaging within target communities.
• Translate coalition and community relationships into deployment opportunities, event access, and message reach.

Staff Recruitment & Management

• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Regional Organizers, Field Managers, and community engagement staff.
• Build diverse, community-based teams reflective of the communities being engaged.
• Develop training materials and conduct onboarding for field leadership, with emphasis on candidate messaging, voter conversation skills, and material distribution rather than voter-file data collection.
• Coach, mentor, and evaluate staff performance while fostering professional development and retention.

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Serve as the primary operational contact for assigned clients, campaign managers, consultants, and coalition partners within the state.
• Participate in strategic planning discussions and provide recommendations based on community visibility, coalition strength, and voter contact activity.
• Deliver regular reports, presentations, and program updates to clients and company leadership.

Operations & Logistics

• Oversee location scouting, event logistics, materials production and distribution, and technology implementation.
• Manage field reporting, quality control, and compliance processes sized to a hot-spotting model rather than a voter-file canvass.
• Coordinate closely with HR, payroll, compliance, and operations teams to support efficient program delivery.

Travel & On-Site Leadership

• Travel extensively throughout the assigned state to launch programs, train staff, conduct quality control, and resolve operational challenges.
• Provide direct leadership during critical program periods, including candidate visits, high-traffic community events, and GOTV.

QualificationsRequired

• 1-3 years of campaign, advocacy, labor, or community organizing experience.
• At least one election cycle managing direct voter contact, community engagement, or grasstops organizing operations.
• Experience supervising staff and managing field or community-facing teams.
• Demonstrated success with:
1. Direct voter contact and candidate or issue message delivery
2. Community organizing and coalition-building
3. Event-based and high-traffic-location engagement ("hot-spotting")
4. GOTV operations
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Experience managing budgets and operational logistics.
• Comfort representing an organization publicly, including at community events, with coalition partners, and with elected officials.
• Ability to travel extensively and work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Valid driver's license and ability to rent and operate vehicles for program needs.

Preferred

• Experience managing statewide advocacy, visibility, or field operations.
• Bilingual Spanish-English proficiency.
• Existing relationships with elected officials, community leaders, or coalition organizations in the assigned state.
• Familiarity with Slack, Google Workspace, and basic field or event tracking tools.
• Experience working with diverse and multilingual communities.
• Previous experience with Democratic campaigns, labor organizations, advocacy groups, or issue campaigns.

What Success Looks Like

By November 2026, the State Organizing Director will have:

• Successfully launched and managed hot-spotting and community visibility programs across their assigned state.
• Built and retained high-performing, community-rooted organizing teams.
• Established and activated grasstops relationships with elected officials, coalition partners, and community leaders.
• Consistently met or exceeded client goals for voter contact, candidate message delivery, and event presence.
• Served as a trusted leader for clients, staff, and community partners.
• Contributed to winning campaigns and visible, meaningful community engagement across key communities.

Compensation

Compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, scope of responsibility, and the geographic market in which the employee is based. Salaries may vary by location to reflect regional labor market conditions.

Monthly compensation is $7,000.

For contract-based candidates, compensation may be structured as a monthly retainer or project-based agreement, depending on experience and program responsibilities.
