PURPOSE: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Instructional Time The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson; gets the class started quickly; keeps students on task; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Student Behavior The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures for routine matters, verbal participation, talk during activities, movement, and transitions; monitors behavior; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Presentation The teacher begins with a review, introduces objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts and language understandable to students, provides examples, assigns tasks, asks appropriate questions, maintains a brisk pace while avoiding unnecessary slowdowns, and summarizes main points at the end. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance The teacher maintains clear standards; circulates during class to check performance; uses oral, written, and other products to check progress; poses questions clearly. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Feedback The teacher provides feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work to encourage growth; affirms correct responses and probes for incorrect or missing responses. MAJOR FUNCTION: Facilitating Instruction The teacher has a plan compatible with school and system goals; uses diagnostic data to develop and revise objectives; maintains accurate records; aligns objectives, strategies, assessment, and student needs; uses available resources. MAJOR FUNCTION: Interacting Within the Educational Environment The teacher treats all students fairly, interacts with students, co‑workers, parents, and community effectively. MAJOR FUNCTION: Performing Non‑Instructional Duties The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned; follows laws, policies, and regulations; pursues professional development; demonstrates progress toward an NC Educator’s License in the assigned content area. Additional Job Functions Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
