The reporting location for this position is Marina State Beach. This position will work u nder the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) and with direction from Environmental Scientists.

The Forestry Aide (seasonal) is part of a natural resources crew and primarily performs manual labor to protect, enhance, restore, and maintain natural resources in the Monterey District. The work involves vegetation management, including invasive plant removal by manual, mechanical, and chemical methods. This position involves extensive field work, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, including walking over uneven and steep terrain, hiking off-trail, in thick brush, while carrying loads of up to 25 lbs.

This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible. The typical work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. but is dependent on operational needs and may vary. Night-time work may occasionally be required.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver's license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

Working Conditions


Work is outdoors, in variable weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.

Work is often in remote locations, away from roads and trails.

Work involves hiking off-trail, walking over uneven and steep terrain.

Frequent periods of hiking, bending, and carrying loads up to 25 lbs.

May have exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, loud noises, and inclement weather.
