Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery serves as a Charge Nurse responsible for overseeing patient care in a high-acuity OB triage, testing, labor, delivery, and antepartum high-risk unit. This role requires skilled nursing care, leadership, and collaboration to manage daily deliveries, patient assessments, and treatment planning. The nurse will coordinate care for an average of 7 to 14 patients, including inductions and high-risk cases, ensuring quality outcomes in a fast-paced, Magnet-designated acute hospital setting. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care and case management to labor and delivery patients, including high-risk antepartum cases.
• Serve regularly in the Charge Nurse role, overseeing unit operations and nursing staff.
• Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and ensure safety.
• Manage OB triage/testing, labor/delivery/antepartum units, OR suites, and PACU rooms.
• Respond to patient needs during inductions and deliveries, maintaining high standards of care.
• Utilize Epic charting system for accurate documentation.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures in a Level II Trauma, Magnet facility.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Alaska Registered Nurse license in hand.
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience; Charge Nurse experience required or willingness to train.
• BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate and Advanced certifications.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute hospital environment.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Previous experience in Labor and Delivery or OB triage settings.
• Experience working in Magnet-designated or Level II Trauma hospitals.
• Familiarity with Epic electronic medical records system.

Special Considerations:

• Must regularly perform Charge Nurse duties.
• No on-call required.
• Weekend work required every other weekend.
• May float within scope to similar units as needed.
• Time off requests approved individually; all requests must be included with submittal.
• Local candidates not accepted; candidate must reside at least 50 miles from facility.
• Parking is free.

Scheduling:

• 13- or 26-week assignment length.
• Shift options: 3 or 4 twelve-hour night shifts per week.
• Guaranteed 60 hours per two weeks; may be called off for one 12-hour shift per pay period.
• Block scheduling accommodations not available.
