Job Title: Phlebotomist IIJob Description

As a Phlebotomist II, your primary role is to assist in performing various assigned duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. You will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring the integrity of the specimens during transport.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

• Label specimens accurately and centrifuge specimens as required.

• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks.

• Update patient information and explain venipuncture or other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.

• Fully understand physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.

• Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.

• Package specimens for transport, ensuring correct temperature and labeling.

• Store specimen samples according to required temperature and protocol.

• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.

• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

• High School Diploma or GED.

• 2-4 years of experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with venipuncture techniques.

• Ability to troubleshoot and make workflow recommendations.

• Strong communication skills for explaining procedures and answering inquiries.

Work Environment

Work in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. The role requires adherence to safety and health regulations, including OSHA and DEP standards. You will be expected to attend department trainings and maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with patients and colleagues.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plantation, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
