Chief, Kidney Transplant

Memorial Healthcare System is seeking an experienced Chief Kidney Transplant Surgeon to lead its abdominal transplant program within the Memorial Transplant Institute. The selected candidate will work alongside a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive care for kidney and pancreas transplant patients, ESRD populations, and living/deceased donor programs. Responsibilities include kidney transplantation, donor nephrectomies (laparoscopic/robotic), transplant‑related general surgery, inpatient and outpatient management, and program leadership. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, leadership, communication, and physician alignment skills.

Candidates must have ASTS‑recognized transplant training, be board certified/eligible in Surgery, and be eligible for Florida licensure. Leadership experience in transplant surgery is preferred. This full‑time position includes weekday clinic hours, shared rotating call coverage among three transplant surgeons, competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and malpractice coverage.

About Memorial Transplant Institute

Memorial Transplant Institute is the only center in Broward County to offer kidney and heart transplantation for both adults and children. Located at Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, the Institute has experienced significant growth since the launch of the adult kidney transplant program in 2017, following federal approval from UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing). The program offers deceased donor and living donor kidney transplantation, including laparoscopic and robotic living donor nephrectomy. The Institute has developed an innovative living donor program that includes paired exchange and incompatible transplant strategies to expand access to transplantation for complex patients. In 2023, the Institute expanded its services to include deceased donor pancreas and simultaneous kidney/pancreas transplantation. Memorial Transplant Institute has developed a strong regional reputation for clinical outcomes, multidisciplinary collaboration, and innovation in transplantation. In the most recent SRTR report, the adult kidney transplant program achieved 5 out of 5 bars for one‑year patient and graft survival and 4 out of 5 bars for transplant rate (getting a transplant faster).
