The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington College of Engineering invites applications for two 100% FTE faculty positions at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of September 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. 

The successful candidates will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a nine-month appointment 3-year term, renewable, beginning September 2027. 

The base salary range for this position will be $8,500- $13,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program; provide innovative, high-quality teaching and mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and contribute to the research, education, and service missions of the Department of Bioengineering, College of Engineering, School of Medicine, and University. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in the Department’s undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD programs and to develop courses and educational activities in their areas of expertise.

These positions will be expected to establish a research program that advances fundamental bioengineering while creating new capabilities for studying human disease and developing next-generation medicines. Opportunities exist to perform research that bridges engineering and biology across molecular, cellular, tissue, and organ scales. Research may involve the development of new experimental, synthetic, materials-based, computationally enabled, or translational technologies for manipulating biological state and function, constructing more faithful models of human physiology and disease, delivering therapeutic functions, or modifying the biological environment in ways that enable repair and regeneration. We also welcome candidates whose work establishes broadly useful platforms rather than technologies limited to a single disease or application. These positions will be expected to build collaborations across disciplines and to establish new connections between foundational technology development and biomedical application.

UW Bioengineering has a strong tradition of interdisciplinary collaboration and translation across engineering, medicine, biology, and the quantitative sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to build collaborations within Bioengineering and across the University of Washington and its affiliated institutions. Opportunities exist to leverage the University’s strengths in protein science, tissue engineering, biomaterials, cell biology, genomics, data science, artificial intelligence, biomedical imaging, and clinical medicine to establish new directions in bioengineering with high promise for national and international impact.

Qualifications

Applicants for the positions must meet the following minimum qualifications:

Applicants must have a PhD (or foreign equivalent degree) in Bioengineering or a related discipline. An MD (or foreign equivalent degree) is also acceptable.
