Assistant Professor without tenure, Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics Position Overview School / Campus / College: School of Medicine Organization: Pediatrics, General Pediatrics Title: Assistant Professor without tenure, Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics Position Details Position Description The Department of Pediatrics, Divisions of General Pediatrics at the University of Washington along with the Seattle Children’s Research Institute Center for Child Health, Behavior & Development invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor without tenure by reason of funding, on the faculty-scientist track. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. Anticipated start date is Summer/Fall 2026. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Anticipated start date is Summer/Fall 2026 The candidate is expected to sustain a funded research program at Seattle Children’s and the University of Washington in the area of pediatric mental health care and services access. The candidate is also expected to provide direction and leadership in the Healthy Lives Institute, a collaboration between the UW Department of Pediatrics and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to our department’s teaching and mentoring mission, and should have extensive experience in teaching and mentorship of trainees. This position will be expected to establish and maintain a research program focused on identifying barriers to and evaluating strategies for better access to prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental and behavioral disorders for children who are under-served. These duties, and direction and leadership expectations in the Healthy Lives Institute, will require community-centered engagement and research approaches. The candidate will be expected to practice clinically, including outpatient pediatric clinic supervision, in resident clinic or faculty practice. While most time will be in the provision of direct patient care, there will also be opportunities to participate in medical student, resident or fellow supervision. In that role, the candidate’s responsibilities will include clinical supervision, teaching, evaluation, and feedback. This position provides an opportunity to work at The Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development (CHBD) at Seattle Children’s Research Institute. The candidate will be have a faculty appointment at the University of Washington and will join a group of highly collaborative research scientists at CHBD with expertise in pediatrics, health services research, psychiatry, psychology, biostatics, and epidemiology. As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty-one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children’s, UW Medicine, and FHCRC), and are part of the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The full-time base salary range for this position will be: $15,744 - $19,917 per month ($188,928 - $239,004 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative duty supplement (ADS). Qualifications Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications: Earned a doctorate degree (MD or DO or foreign equivalent) Documented expertise in health services research, health policy, epidemiology, psychology, child and human development, sociology, or other relevant fields, with the specific research focus indicated above Eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington Prior and/or existing research funding and demonstrated productivity in research dissemination via peer-reviewed publications In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
