Director of Development

Children’s Emergency Relief International (CERI) is a global nonprofit organization with offices in Eastern Europe, South Asia, Africa and Central America. We work with children, families, communities, and governments to provide a family environment as the first and best option for children to grow in. We help create a path to family for children, work with at-risk youth to achieve independence and strengthen families to provide the best home environment for their children. Academic Requirements Required - Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, non-profit management or related field. Certifications None. Work Experience The ideal candidate is a seasoned philanthropic leader with 5–10 years of fundraising development experience and a verified track record of meeting ambitious financial targets. They must demonstrate a sophisticated ability to secure major gifts through strategic engagement and possess the leadership skills necessary to recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing team. Exceptional communication skills are essential for inspiring diverse audiences, as is a proficiency in donor management systems and the agility to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-cultural, and globally mobile environment. While fluency in a second language and experience leading vision trips are preferred, the successful applicant will bring access to expanded donor networks to further the “for-impact” mission of the organization. A high level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence are a must. Responsibilities Build and maintain a robust portfolio of major gift donors and prospects. Use data and discernment to qualify prospects through research, direct outreach, and networked referrals. Utilize CRM to track donor relationships, measure outcomes and report progress. Lead high-touch engagement plans and personalized solicitation strategies. Serve as a primary relationship manager and trusted advisor, moving donors through the development cycle: discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Partner with VP of Development, President and board members to develop joint strategies and solicit high level prospects. Collaborate with the community and events staff to optimize engagement opportunities for major donor prospects. Foster a collaborative team culture, promoting excellence in fundraising practices. Serve as a senior member of the Development team and contribute thought leadership to CERI’s philanthropic strategy. Recruit and manage a team including gift officers for church relationships, corporations and foundations and mid-level giving. Mentor other CERI staff in development approaches and donor engagement best practices. Host and lead vision trip experiences to deepen engagement with major gift partners. Represent CERI as a brand ambassador at community gatherings and public speaking opportunities. Create customized cultivation events tailored to donor interests to promote CERI across the country. Engage prospective donors in mission-aligned experiences. Assist with annual campaigns and other fundraising events, as needed. Other job duties as assigned. Requirements Salesforce experience. Regional and national travel 30%-40% of the time. Excellence in both oral and written communications. Ability to work through stringent deadlines with attention to detail and focus on priorities. Self-starter with the ability to manage time effectively. Integrity in dealing with confidential donor, client, and financial information. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Ability to inspire confidence and trust in agency leadership and donors. Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Cultural sensitivity towards the served population. Computer literacy and willingness to work across multiple databases. Possess a valid driver’s license, work eligibility status, and pass required background checks.
