Job Description The Medical Assistant supports physicians, nurses, and other licensed staff by facilitating efficient patient flow, performing patient care activities, and handling administrative tasks. Key responsibilities include: Efficient Patient Flow Escort patients to exam rooms, confirm identity with two identifiers, and prepare for examination. Take and document accurate vital signs per standards. Record visit reason and update allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information. Notify provider and registered nurse of significant vital changes or acute symptoms. Set up equipment or supplies needed for the visit. Clean and prepare exam room for the next patient. Respond to needs to expedite visits and maintain flow. Assistance with Procedures Assist in ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen collection, and CLIA‑waived testing as directed by the provider. Quality Care Support Maintain exam rooms per protocols for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment. Participate in environmental safety rounds. Manage vaccine and medication inventory. Monitor equipment and instruments to clinic guidelines. Assist in ordering supplies and dispose expired items. Adhere to office opening and closing procedures. Promote patient satisfaction by interacting professionally and offering assistance to others. Perform delegated procedures specific to oncology specialty. Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor or manager. Qualifications Required Proof of eligibility to take one of the five MA certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA). Documentation requirements for new graduates and non‑certified MAs. Complete one of the following certifications within six months of employment: CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, NRCMA. High school diploma or GED. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification. Signed acknowledgment that certification must be attained within 6 months. Strong computer skills. Preferred Completion of an accredited MA training program. One to two years of ambulatory care experience. Experience with electronic medical record systems.
