Salary: Teacher's Salary Schedule

Reporting Relationship: Building Principal

Interview process will include singing, sight reading, playing the piano, and teaching a short music lesson to a small choral ensemble.

• Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement (JX) in K-8 music
• Possess a Bachelors Degree with a major in vocal or instrumental music (Masters Degree preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, faculty, administrators, peers, parents and the Ann Arbor community
• Active involvement in professional music association(s) desired
• Ability to use technology for instructional and management purposes desired

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teach district approved curriculum. Develop lessons and instructional material to provide instruction to adapt to the curriculum needs of each pupil. Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by various communication means. Provide performing opportunities for students in concerts and assembly formats. Keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports. Serve on committees to promote music in the school as well as the community.

Language Skills

Read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effectively present information in written and oral form.

Mathematical Skills

Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills and Abilities

Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community.

Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
