Day Shift

A leading cardiothoracic surgery program in Colorado Springs is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) with cardiac surgery and ICU management expertise to join its collaborative, high-performing surgical team.

Position Overview

The Cardiothoracic Surgery APP will provide comprehensive perioperative care for cardiac surgery patients across the operating room, CVICU, inpatient floors, and clinic settings. This role includes assisting in complex cardiac procedures, managing critically ill cardiovascular patients, and collaborating closely with surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary care teams.

Candidates should be comfortable functioning independently, managing complex clinical situations, and working within a highly collaborative surgical environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced clinical management for cardiothoracic surgery patients across the continuum of care
• Assist in cardiac surgical procedures, including first assisting and endoscopic vein harvesting when applicable
• Manage CVICU and cardiovascular surgery patients, including rounding, evaluations, treatment planning, and follow-up care
• Participate in outpatient clinic coverage, including two full clinic days weekly
• Rotate through operating room coverage Monday through Friday
• Order and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and diagnostic testing
• Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans based on patient outcomes
• Perform bedside procedures appropriate to the patient population
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, intensivists, physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary teams
• Participate in continuing education and ongoing professional development initiatives

Qualifications

• Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required
• Minimum of 3 years of cardiac or cardiovascular surgery experience with ICU patient management required
• Experience with endoscopic vein harvesting and first assisting strongly preferred
• NCCPA certification required for PAs
• ANCC or AANPCB certification required for NPs
• Active or eligible Colorado license required
• DEA license or eligibility required
• BLS certification required
• Must be eligible for Medicare/Medicaid provider enrollment
• Clean malpractice and licensure history strongly preferred
• Must have no sanctions or exclusions from HHS/OIG or GSA
• Visa sponsorship unavailable
• No locums or locums-to-permanent candidates
