Software Engineer Level 1

Responsibilities Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing‑intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real‑time systems, and business management information systems) based upon documented requirements. Work individually or as part of a team to review and test software components for adherence to design requirements, document test results, and resolve software problem reports. Utilize appropriate software development and design methodologies for the environment. Provide specific input to software components of system design, including hardware/software trade‑offs, software reuse, use of COTS/GOTS, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual components. Communicate with broader DAT, QC, CNO, and agency teams to identify alternative or existing solutions and collaborate on common development problems. Required Skills US citizen only. TS/SCI with polygraph required. Three years experience as a software engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity; bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline required (four additional years of experience may substitute for the degree). Experience analyzing user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements. Experience designing and coding new software or modifying existing software to add new features. Ability to debug existing software and correct defects. Experience integrating existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments. Experience developing simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories. Experience providing recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards. Experience developing or implementing algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards. Ability to assist in developing and executing test procedures for software components. Experience writing or reviewing software and system documentation. Experience developing software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, consulting with users or system engineers, analyzing system flow, data usage, and work processes, and investigating problem areas. Experience serving as a team lead at the appropriate level in the software development process on any particular project. Experience modifying existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance. Ability to design, develop, and modify software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design. Experience designing or implementing complex database or data repository interfaces/queries. Some combination of UI/UX, middleware/API, back‑end, DevOps, CNO, and data science experience with a heavy interest in user experience.
