Safety Manager

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Perform management oversight of construction activity on behalf of the client, reporting on contractor regulatory and contract safety compliance on multiple project sites. Monitor compliance to all current OSHA requirements that relate to the specific construction projects. Perform daily safety reviews of work in progress in accordance with current Safety Regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Monitor adherence to Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) requirements and procedures. Support the Program Safety Manager, including attending required meetings and providing safety reports/analysis as requested. Attend construction meetings with the college project team and general contractor. Lead the safety topic (toolbox) and report on site observations (Observation Report); review upcoming construction schedule for hazard preparedness. Perform ongoing construction site safety inspections and generate daily safety reports for all site visits. Submit weekly Project Health Safety and Environmental Observation Report to the College Project Manager. Perform ongoing review of contractor safety submittals, JHA, MOP, Fall Protection Plans, Crane Lift Plans, Excavation and Scaffold Erecting Plans, Confined Space Entry, and other high‑risk operations. Review contractor‑submitted incident reports, participate in safety stand‑downs, and prepare lessons learned for the Program Safety Manager. Perform and document safety orientation with contractor safety representatives. Monitor adherence to zero‑tolerance and corrective action policy for workers not in compliance with the Program’s safety policy. Maintain flexibility in schedule and transportation to work at multiple sites throughout the greater LosAngeles area. Work in a fast‑paced environment, establishing daily work priorities and overseeing multiple active construction projects. Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills. Knowledge & Skills Required Experience working with OCIP. Experience with Safety Management for Public Sector Construction. Current 40‑Hour HAZWOPER certification. Current OSHA‑500 (Trainer in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry). Ability to effectively communicate with Owner’s Construction Management staff and Contractor’s Site Management Team. Ability to manage, control, and report safety incidents in a timely manner in accordance with OSHA regulations and Owner’s Requirements. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other basic software used in construction. Strong written and oral communication skills. Preferred Education and Experience Construction management, safety management, safety engineer, or related degree. Minimum of ten (10) years of commercial construction experience in the US with a general contractor. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in California with a contractor or major subcontractor. Two (2) years’ experience in construction of educational projects in a campus environment. Strong experience managing field construction teams on multiple projects. Experience on demolition, renovation, and new construction building projects. Experience working on OCIP programs. Minimum of holding a valid Safety Management Specialist (SMS) certificate or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) or a Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC) certificate issued by the National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP). Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Experience on modernization or renovation projects involving abatement, remediation of hazardous materials, hazardous material waste removal, and handling of asbestos and lead‑based paint. Strong experience working with senior management and field teams on large building programs across multiple sites and locations. Experience participating in scheduled construction meetings with contractors and project managers. Strong experience in safety incident reporting and daily construction reporting for multiple projects. Salary The salary range for this full‑time role is $95,000.00–$126,666.68 per year, based on position, geography, client, and experience.
