Inpatient Pediatric Physical Therapist

Job Description This position is responsible for screening, testing, evaluating, diagnosing, and treating injuries, diseases, and disabilities using physical therapy procedures and modalities in accordance with standard physical therapy practices. In addition, the role includes consulting, educating, and training patients, families, and caregivers, and collaborating with care teams and stakeholders to deliver quality, patient-centered care. The position is for a pediatric physical therapist scheduled for three (3) 10‑hour shifts per week: Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The role also includes rotating Saturday and holiday coverage and assistance with additional coverage for other physical therapists when patient care needs arise. Flexibility and a collaborative mindset are essential to support continuity of care within the inpatient pediatric setting. Essential Functions Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health and abides by service standards. Provides skilled physical therapy services, staying updated on standard practices for different patient groups. Conducts evaluations and treatments according to professional standards (APTA), considering diagnosis, history, and physician referrals, and develops care plans with specific goals based on patient assessments. Meets established productivity standards for the department or service line. Keeps thorough and timely patient records as required by regulations and facility policies. Completes patient billing accurately and promptly. Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare providers about patient needs and goals. Ensures smooth operations and optimal use of rehabilitation services. Manages all aspects of patient care and education, including supervising assistants, aides, office staff, and students to ensure high-quality care. Participates in and promotes continuing education opportunities for self and staff, seeking new learning opportunities according to licensure requirements. Engages in quality improvement processes, including safe equipment use, improving clinical outcomes, patient access, patient experience and all aspects of the Intermountain Operating Model. Participates in utilization review audits. Participates in patient care conferences, interdisciplinary meetings, staff meetings, and necessary professional and work groups in collaboration or consensus with leader. Contributes to program development and marketing strategies to grow the physical therapy program and achieve department goals. Qualifications Current Physical Therapist license in the state(s) where the candidate will work. Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers. Basic computer skills. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Experience working with pediatric populations. Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, and acceptable driving record. Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require verbal communication, hearing, and understanding spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, especially during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation, medication preparation, and other tasks. Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Expected to bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including items weighing up to and including heavy items. Ability to walk, assist with transporting/ambulating patients, and distribute supplies and equipment. Includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, often in crowded and busy rooms. May be required to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time. Location Primary Children’s at Lehi, Lehi, Utah Schedule 30 weekly hours (three 10‑hour shifts per week). Hours: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Also Saturday and holiday rotation. Flexible coverage as needed. Compensation Hourly range: $42.66 – $65.82, depending on experience.
