Shear Operator

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dependable Shear Operator to join our manufacturing team. The Shear Operator will operate and set up industrial shearing equipment to cut metal and other materials to specified dimensions while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and productivity.

The ideal candidate has experience operating a mechanical or hydraulic shear, can read measurements and production drawings, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate industrial shearing equipment according to production specifications.
• Measure and cut sheet metal, plate, or other materials accurately to required dimensions.
• Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, drawings, and production instructions.
• Select appropriate machine settings, tooling, and material-handling methods.
• Inspect finished pieces using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers.
• Make adjustments to machine settings to maintain quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Load, position, and safely handle raw materials.
• Identify and report machine problems, material defects, and quality issues.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Perform routine machine inspections and basic maintenance as required.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and proper PPE procedures.
• Meet established production, quality, and efficiency standards.
• Work effectively with supervisors, quality personnel, and other production team members.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating a shear, cutting machine, or similar industrial manufacturing equipment preferred.
• Manufacturing, metal fabrication, or steel-processing experience preferred.
• Ability to read a tape measure and accurately interpret dimensions.
• Ability to read basic blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
• Basic understanding of measurements, tolerances, and material specifications.
• Good attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
• Ability to safely lift, move, and position materials.
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work overtime or different shifts when required.

Preferred Experience

• Hydraulic or mechanical shear operation
• CNC or programmable cutting equipment
• Metal fabrication or steel manufacturing
• Forklift or overhead crane experience
• Experience with calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and move materials as required.
• Ability to work around industrial machinery, noise, dust, and metal materials.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
