Controls Technician I
The Controls Installer I is responsible for installing HVAC controls, lighting controls, security, and other building automation systems. This entry-level position requires a positive attitude with willingness to learn, attention to detail, and the ability to follow design specifications, details and safety protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Installation of conduit, wiring, per project plans and configure building automation systems based on project specifications.
- Install control devices such as thermostats, sensors, controllers and actuators.
- Document work performed and required modifications.
- Troubleshoot basic issues and coordinate with senior technicians for complex problems.
- Conduct tests to verify proper installation and operation of control equipment.
- Wire control panels and local devices according to wiring diagrams and specifications.
- Assist senior technicians with system commissioning and testing.
- Perform inspections and troubleshoot issues during installation.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed.
- Follow safety guidelines and procedures during all phases of installation.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None (entry-level role focused on learning and assisting journeyman and senior technicians).
Requirements/Qualifications
- Experience: 03 years in construction, labor, mechanical, electrical, facilities maintenance, or related field; no prior controls/HVAC experience requiredstrong mechanical/electrical aptitude, eagerness to learn, and positive attitude essential.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate degree, trade school certificate, or technical training in HVAC, controls, electronics, or related field preferred.
- Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; OSHA 10-hour certification encouraged.
- Physical Demands: Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
- Work Environment/Safety: Primarily field-based in commercial/industrial settings (indoor/outdoor, rooftops, mechanical rooms, varying weather); exposure to noise, dust, heights, electrical hazards, and extreme temperatures; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel-toed boots at all timessafety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position. Occasional regional travel within assigned market or on-call rotations may be required as business needs dictate.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and building automation principles.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Prior experience in cabling, electrical work or automation systems is a plus
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Mechanical aptitude a plus
