Manufacturing Engineer 2The Manufacturing Engineer 2 provides a range of expertise in supporting and improving the manufacturing capabilities to produce products. The Engineer will contribute to improving a range of composites manufacturing processes that can directly impact the sustaining and growth efforts of operations. This position will be focused on design and deployment of aerospace composites manufacturing, but is not limited to: NPI, Process optimization, and Continuous Improvement as the Manufacturing Engineer will participate in both the introduction of new products and technology as well as optimization of existing processes.Job Core ResponsibilitiesEvaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, programming, assembly, tooling, and materials pertaining to compositesDevelops manufacturing processes and designs by studying product and material requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and implementing manufacturing methods and equipment.Understands and minimize both technical process variability and human process variabilityParticipates in Design and Manufacturing and maintaining revision control for processes and design changes.Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.Coordinates with outside vendors on development and design of composites manufacturing solutionsRegular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessaryDesign & Modeling: Create 3D CAD models and define fiber architectures, ply layups, and resin systems. Optimization of process and consulting with process engineers on a "design for manufacturability" approachProcess Development: Develop manufacturing work instructions, tooling plans, and assembly methods (such as layup and curing).Testing & Analysis: Use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate structural integrity and run physical material tests.Troubleshooting: Lead root-cause analyses on material or process failures and implement corrective fixes.Collaboration: Work with production, quality control, and suppliers to meet project goals and budgetsRequired SkillsEducation: Bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectationsYears of Experience:3 - 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing environment2 to 5+ years of hands-on experience with composite manufacturing, processing, or structural testing.Technical Skills and KnowledgeProficiency in CAD software and FEA/CAE structural analysis tools.Strong understanding of polymer matrix behaviors, mechanical properties, and industry safety standardsExperience with 3D Solid Modeling and Simulation SoftwareExcellent ability to apply a systematic and analytical approach to problem solvingNC/Robot Programming experience preferredAdvanced knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or other continuous improvementAbility to explain a range of complex technical informationEffective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completionAdaptable to changing requirements and situationsProficient in Microsoft Office and database management toolsSiemens NX with Fibersim experience a plusComposites manufacturing experience a plus keying on knowledge of thermoset and thermoplastic materials and chemistryEnvironmental & Physical RequirementsOffice / Sedentary RequirementsIncumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear the telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.Manufacturing / Non-Sedentary RequirementsIncumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work may be performed in an office or warehouse environment. Typically requires the ability to spend 66%+ hours each work day doing the following activities: stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, stoop, or climb.
