These programs attract traditional and non‑traditional students, including those pursuing academic training after interruptions, those seeking to increase occupational skills, and those entering higher education from other countries. Many of these students require counseling, support, and referrals on a variety of issues that impact their ability to reach academic and career goals. The Wellness Counselor is an applied educational specialist concerned with the mental health, wellness, and overall wellbeing of students, with special attention to the needs of those least able to act as their own advocates. The position develops and fosters extensive cooperative relationships with faculty, staff, administrators and external stakeholders; maintains currency with emerging trends and best practices in counseling and student support; and leads campus counseling services in adopting innovative practices that improve student retention and completion while eliminating equity gaps among marginalized student groups. The Wellness Counselor regularly collects, analyzes, and uses data to inform practice, maintain compliance with local, state and federal policies and ensure equitable attainment of outcomes. The counselor delivers programming and direct services to students through a master’s degree in counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy, or a doctoral degree in psychology. The counselor must be a licensed professional counselor (LPC), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) or PsyD/PhD in psychology with active licensure in Connecticut. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Wellness counseling services Provide professional counseling services to community college students to contribute to their academic, career, and personal goals. Development and delivery of wellness counseling programming Participate in and contribute to the development of programs that guide and counsel students in academic, personal, career, and social progress. Consultation and collaboration with faculty and staff Advise faculty and staff on appropriate actions and assistance for students requiring special attention. Additional responsibilities include: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies Service on assigned committees and task forces Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings that may occur during evenings and weekends. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy, or a doctoral degree in psychology, together with two (2) or more years of professional counseling experience; or a combination of experience and training that provides the competencies required for effective performance of the position’s essential duties. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be an active licensed professional counselor (LPC), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), or PsyD/Ph.D. in psychology with active licensure in Connecticut. Experience with the full spectrum of professional counseling theory, techniques and methods. Experience with crisis counseling and intervention. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams). Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a college/university counseling center. Experience in mental health and wellness outreach programming. Experience delivering clinical supervision to undergraduate or graduate students. Salary and Benefits Salary range: $82,924‑$88,478 approximate annual. Salary is based on qualifications, education, job‑related experience, and internal equity.
