Design Engineer 3 - Washington, DC with Security Clearance

Headquarters are in Tysons, Virginia. We are seeking a Design Engineer 3 to join our Security and Electronic Systems (SES) business unit. The role is based in Stuttgart, Germany, and the candidate must be willing to relocate. The engineer will design, integrate, operate, and maintain electronic security services, including intrusion detection, access control, biometric authentication, video surveillance, audio‑visual, IT systems, perimeter defense and command‑and‑control systems for federal, local and commercial customers. Responsibilities Develop systems and project requirements based on clients’ needs, and collaborate with clients, partners, vendors and internal teams to provide best‑in‑class solutions. Produce high‑level systems designs with required technical specifications, system analysis reports, and design development. Create new‑build and project drawings, specifications, technology product selection, installation sequence planning, and commissioning testing/commissioning scripts. Define and determine design‑project scope of work based on customer needs, provide high‑quality design solutions, and incorporate new models to augment design standards. Review RFP documentation, Statement of Work and client specifications for new project bids. Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) and forecast engineering time for new project bids. Develop procedures to validate system configuration, test plans, deployment/commissioning plans, and administration procedures. Improve design standards and lead complex projects, mentoring and overseeing project execution through design‑excellence processes to ensure high delivery quality. Design, sustain, and provide technical support for deployed security systems. Partner with engineering leadership to identify skill gaps and prioritize training initiatives. Collaborate with installation, deployment, and project‑management teams to ensure standards are maintained and provide recommendations and guidance on solution deployments. Collaborate with other engineering teams on new technology developments or changes in customers’ environments that may require new solutions. Maintain working knowledge and/or certification with electronic security systems and applications such as CCURE, Genetec, Lenel, Milestone, HID, Axis and others. Serve as a subject‑matter expert on security engineering needs and requirements for system performance, installations and sustainment programs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university. Minimum 5 years of experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity, providing physical security system and IT solutions. Ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance with U.S. citizenship (or meet eligibility requirements for government security investigation). Strong oral, written and presentation skills. Demonstrated background working with multidisciplinary teams. Strong time‑management and organizational skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives. Strong MS‑Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25 % of the time.
