Assistant or Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, Shiley School of Engineering The University of Portland (UP), a primarily undergraduate institution, is seeking a tenure‑track faculty member (Assistant or Associate Professor) in Electrical Engineering for the Shiley School of Engineering. The successful candidate will begin January 4, 2027 or August 15, 2027. Job Summary Tenure‑track faculty are responsible for teaching undergraduate electrical engineering courses and engineering service courses, advising students, participating in student advising, service on committees and in professional associations, and publicly serving the university. Faculty demonstrate a habit of scholarship and are expected to support the school’s undergraduate focus. Core Duties Teach undergraduate electrical engineering courses and related engineering service courses such as Engineering Fundamentals and multidisciplinary capstone projects. Maintain a consistent habit of research productivity, including dissemination within the discipline in various venues. Advising undergraduate students and active participation in campus community. Serving on school, faculty, and university committees as requested. Education & Experience Required: Terminal degree (Ph.D.) or equivalent in electrical engineering or a related discipline. Required: Teaching or instructional experience. Required for Associate Professor rank: Achievement of tenure at an accredited college or university. Preferred: Experience teaching undergraduate engineering courses. Preferred: Expertise in digital systems design, embedded systems, and computer architecture. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to teach a variety of electrical and general engineering courses and labs. Demonstrated effectiveness in inclusive and student‑centered teaching. Orientation towards continual learning and application in teaching and research. Proficiency in scholarly research leading to publication in peer‑reviewed journals. Commitment to teaching and student mentoring. Competence and commitment to inclusive excellence and partnership with diverse students, faculty, and staff. Collaboration within and across the university. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office, email, and database software; ability to adopt new technologies. Physical Requirements Frequently: sit, perform desk‑based computer tasks; use fine manipulation and grasp; use a telephone; write by hand; sort and file paperwork. Frequently: interact and communicate with other university members. Occasionally: stand and walk; twist; lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally: attend events and activities on or off campus. Working Conditions Hours: may require flexible and/or longer hours, including nights and weekends as needed. Salary Range & Benefits 2026‑2027 annual salary: $101,166 for first‑year assistant professor; $112,283 for first‑year associate professor.
