Lead Software Engineer, Digital & Platform Services

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal software engineering training or certification, with 5+ years of applied experience
• Practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
• Experience leading the use of approved AI-assisted development tools for coding, review, testing, and troubleshooting, including validating outputs for correctness, performance, security, and architectural fit
• Strong knowledge of responsible AI use in engineering, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, resiliency, and security; ability to establish team practices and coach engineers on safe, compliant adoption
• Expert IBM iSeries (AS/400) development skills and DB2 for i, including files, views, indexes, triggers, stored procedures, performance optimization, and capacity planning
• LANSA and Visual LANSA IDE experience, including leading upgrades, execution, and migration across environments; IBM MQ and CDC Replication architecture, implementation, and large-scale troubleshooting
• Java and Python experience in the IBM i PASE environment, with the ability to define integration patterns and coach team members
• Advanced debugging and root-cause analysis skills using tools such as STRDBG, STRISDB, Service Entry Points, job logs, Visual Explain, and remote Java/Python debugging; ability to lead production incident triage
• Leadership in resiliency and maintenance, including HA/DR strategy and failover testing, PTF management, performance tuning, and technical debt remediation
• Experience with Git version control (Bitbucket/GitHub), Aldon LMI, Robot Scheduling, and ServiceNow; ability to define branching strategies and release workflows
• Experience with AI-powered tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude agents, and advanced prompt engineering for legacy code analysis, modernization assessment, and documentation
• Preferred: Proficiency in CLP, CLLE, RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, LANSA, and Visual LANSA, with ability to establish coding standards and conduct architecture reviews
• Preferred: Deep knowledge of ILE concepts, service programs, and modular application design; experience leading modernization, including REST/SOAP web services from IBM i or Python/Java
• Preferred: Mastery of IBM i data areas, data queues, and inter-process communication; experience designing event-driven and asynchronous architectures
• Preferred: Familiarity with IBM i Access Client Solutions, Navigator, and IBM Rational Developer for i or VS Code with Code for IBM i; ability to standardize team development environments
• Preferred: Hands-on experience with HA/DR tools such as MIMIX, iTera, Quick-EDD, or IBM PowerHA, including DR runbook ownership and failover drills; ITIL foundation knowledge and experience representing engineering in CAB reviews

• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction to one or more agile teams delivering secure, stable, scalable technology products
• Make architectural decisions, set engineering standards, and mentor engineers while contributing hands-on to critical solutions
• Design, develop, and troubleshoot creative software solutions, including complex technical problems beyond routine approaches
• Build secure, high-quality production code and review and debug code written by others
• Lead adoption of approved AI-assisted engineering practices and SDLC automation; establish validation standards, promote reusable patterns, and improve delivery speed, code quality, and operational outcomes
• Lead technical design and architecture for complex cross-functional systems, setting patterns and standards for broad adoption and guiding solutions from concept through delivery
• Architect secure production systems and oversee algorithmic design to ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability across distributed environments
• Define best practices and validation frameworks for AI-assisted coding, refactoring, testing, and documentation, and measure improvements in delivery and quality
• Shape the SDLC toolchain strategy by identifying and implementing AI-assisted development and automation capabilities that increase throughput and reduce toil
• Own architecture and design artifacts for enterprise-scale applications, ensuring constraints, non-functional requirements, and security standards are met
• Analyze diverse data to improve architecture, application performance, and engineering processes; present findings and recommendations to senior leaders
• Identify technical debt, recurring failure patterns, and architectural risks, then prioritize remediation plans that strengthen coding practices and platform resilience
• Coach engineers, conduct design reviews, support technical development, and foster engineering excellence
• Lead engineering communities of practice, assess emerging technologies, and recommend build, buy, or adoption decisions to leadership
• Partner with product owners, architects, and business stakeholders to turn business strategy into technical roadmaps and execution plans
