The Upper School also includes a small boarding program of international and domestic students who live and learn together enhancing the vibrancy of the school community. JOB SUMMARY Extension Teachers design and facilitate engaging, developmentally appropriate programming that bridges the school day and after school experience for students. Working collaboratively as part of a team, Extension Teachers support student growth through inquiry-based learning, social‑emotional development, and experiential education, while maintaining program quality in alignment with Extension Department guidelines, OES policies, and Oregon Office of Child Care regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Design and deliver engaging, inquiry-based programming that supports the developmental needs of grade‑specific cohorts through large group, small group, and individual instruction. Collaborate with Extension colleagues, divisional faculty, and administrators to align after school programming with the school day curriculum. Foster an inclusive, caring learning environment that honors individual differences and promotes cultural awareness. Implement positive student support and behavior protocols that encourage problem‑solving, build self‑esteem, and ensure student safety. Supervise gathering spaces and common areas with focused attention to student well‑being and safety. Maintain and organize shared supplies, equipment, and facilities. Participate actively in team planning, training, orientation, and regular staff meetings. Engage in ongoing professional growth, including a minimum of 15 hours of professional development annually, and maintain all required certifications (Central Background Registry, Food Handler, CPR/First Aid, ORO hours). Support the Extension Head Teacher in curriculum development and program execution. Communicate and collaborate positively with students, families, and members of the broader school community. Participate in Extension and school‑wide events as requested. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AA or equivalent two‑year degree or a combination of training and experience. Experience working with school‑aged students in an educational setting. Intercultural competency, ability to interact appropriately with a diverse array of students, and families; ability to lead diverse groups of students effectively. A demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion. Ability to enroll in Oregon Office of Child Care Central Background Registry. Ability to obtain Food Handlers certificate and CPR and First Aid certification. Ability to pass a criminal background check. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS BA/BS or equivalent in relevant discipline. Strong background in social‑emotional learning practices. Knowledge of or experience in Reggio-inspired schools. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaborative, collegial relationships with colleagues and community members. Ability to create and maintain a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment where all students feel valued and can thrive. Proficiency with digital tools and basic computer skills necessary to effectively support instruction, communication, and program operations. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to sit at computer and keyboard for moderate periods. Mobility sufficient to move about the campus, to include climbing stairs. Sight and hearing adequate to perform the duties of the job, ability to communicate clearly. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
