Position: Homeroom Teachers, Lower School Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI Job Id: 243 # of Openings: 2 Homeroom Teachers, Lower School Full-Time, Faculty The Roeper School is where gifted students love to learn. Roeper is currently recruiting for Homeroom Teachers for our Lower School. Position Summary The Homeroom Teacher works collaboratively to provide an intellectually challenging, creative, and differentiated educational program for learners. The Homeroom Teacher is responsible for coordinating homeroom instruction using a variety of best curricular approaches. Depending on the stage/grade level Homeroom Teachers may co‑teach or work with an Associate Teacher. Key Responsibilities Use play and project‑based programs, including outside‑based nature experiences that integrate a balance of whole language & phonics, manipulative‑based math approaches, and thematic social studies Oversee the social and emotional development of the students in the mixed‑age classroom. Coordinate key components of daily student life, including morning meetings, class meetings, service and leadership opportunities, and class agreements, rituals, and routines Use a strengths‑based approach to overcoming hurdles with challenging students Provide student‑centered, interdisciplinary, and differentiated learning suitable for gifted early childhood education gifted students Develop and manage curriculum for homeroom classroom and small groups Collaborate closely with partner teacher (Homeroom or Associate, depending on the grade level) in coordinating homeroom instruction using a variety of curricular approaches Collaborate with specialist teachers to create experiences that support learning goals Oversee the instruction and supervision of small groups of students by Associate Teachers, if applicable Utilize knowledge of a variety of instructional and assessment methods, integrated use of technology Deliver regular assessment (formal and informal) to evaluate progress and inform instruction Instructional choices driven by clearly articulated goals and objectives, which can be referenced in written lesson plans Collaborate with other teachers in implementing a multicultural and culturally relevant curriculum Undertake a reasonable and equitable number of non‑instructional supervisions as assigned by the Director of the Lower School Communicate with parents regarding program, curriculum, instruction, and assessment including participation in back‑to‑school nights, parent‑teacher conferences, and similar events Share student progress with parents/guardians through communication, including conferences, progress updates, and narrative semester reports Maintain effective communication with students, parents, teachers, colleagues, and administration Support the educational mission of the school through varied activities, including faculty meeting attendance and professional development days, committee participation, events, and field trips Skills Teaching experience providing classroom instruction for preschool through elementary school students Commitment to supporting and collaborating with teachers to contribute and reach learning and classroom objectives. Demonstrated instructional and communication skills Knowledge/experience working with gifted learners Understanding and knowledge of how to support twice exceptional learners Strong organizational skills Ability to articulate curricular choices Ability to maintain an engaging, organized, tidy, student‑centered learning space Ability to form collaborative work relationships Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency work in order to perform responsibilities in accordance with Roeper's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion A collegial approach and congenial temperament Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field Three to five years of teaching experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience Teaching certification preferred but not required Roeper offers competitive compensation and benefits including Short‑term and long‑term disability coverage Flexible spending accounts Retirement plan with employer contribution Professional development and continuing education support Tuition reduction for students Generous paid time off, including holidays, personal days, and school breaks Salary Consideration: Faculty, Teacher Salaries for the position are based on education and years of classroom teaching experience. Starting salaries for full‑time faculty and one to five years of experience; with a Bachelor's degree are from $43K or with a Master’s degree from $47.5K.
