Job Title: Maintenance Engineer / Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Job Description

This role serves as a key member of the maintenance team, responsible for keeping plant equipment in safe, reliable operating condition in a growing manufacturing facility. You will perform routine preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems, and support engineers with new equipment installation and project implementation. The facility produces industrial roofing urethane, asphalt products, and adhesive tape, and you will work closely with a diverse workforce to support production and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety rules, work instructions, and established procedures while performing maintenance activities.

• Support and enhance the plant's preventative maintenance program by performing scheduled inspections and service on equipment.

• Maintain accurate documentation for repairs, parts purchases, audits, and compliance activities to support maintenance records and reporting.

• Perform electrical maintenance, including installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and components.

• Perform HVAC, plumbing, and utilities maintenance to ensure reliable operation of facility infrastructure.

• Conduct maintenance and repairs on production equipment used for chemicals, adhesives, urethane, asphalt products, and industrial tapes.

• Diagnose equipment issues, identify root causes, and recommend effective corrective actions to restore and improve equipment performance.

• Install new machinery and equipment, including mechanical and electrical setup, and support commissioning and start-up processes.

• Partner with engineers on project implementation, equipment upgrades, and process improvements.

• Operate forklifts, lifts, and hoists safely to access equipment and move materials as needed for maintenance tasks.

• Work at heights when required to service equipment and facility systems.

• Train team members in basic maintenance practices and safe equipment operation to build overall team capability.

• Collaborate with multiple departments to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize production downtime.

• Participate in safety programs and initiatives, including safety recognitions and continuous improvement of safe work practices.

Essential Skills

• 5+ years of technical training and maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with pumps, mixers, and general machinery.

• Hands-on experience as a maintenance technician or mechanic working with production equipment.

• Ability to perform electrical installation, troubleshooting, and repair on industrial equipment and systems.

• Experience with PLC and HMI troubleshooting to support automated equipment and controls.

• Ability to perform HVAC, plumbing, and utilities maintenance in a plant environment.

• Proficiency in operating forklifts, lifts, and hoists safely, including maneuvering in tight or cluttered spaces.

• Ability to work at heights to access and service elevated equipment and infrastructure.

• Capability to diagnose equipment issues and recommend practical corrective actions.

• Comfort working around chemicals and adhesives used in industrial roofing and tape production, with adherence to safety guidelines.

• Ability to follow detailed work instructions, safety rules, and plant procedures consistently.

• Strong documentation skills to maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and compliance-related tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to read P&IDs and technical drawings to support troubleshooting and equipment installation.

• OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Training or willingness to obtain it.

• Pipefitting experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

• Experience working cross-functionally with multiple departments, such as production, engineering, and quality.

• Experience installing new machinery and supporting commissioning processes.

• Experience training others in basic maintenance practices and safe equipment operation.

• Background working with equipment used for urethane, asphalt products, adhesives, or tape manufacturing is a plus.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility that produces industrial roofing urethane, asphalt products, and adhesive tapes, including large rolls of tape used in the roofing industry. The plant operates on a 1st shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime and weekend work required based on production and maintenance needs. The environment can be disorganized and messy at times, with boxes and pallets throughout the facility and narrow aisle ways that require a high level of skill and awareness when operating forklifts. Fans run to improve air circulation, and there is a noticeable odor from adhesives and glues used in production, although the chemicals used are described as non-hazardous and not dangerous to breathe when handled properly. The company provides free safety gear from vending machines, including items such as safety equipment and steel toe boots once brought on as a permanent employee (with additional pairs for certain roles), as well as free coffee and bottled water. Employees receive scheduled breaks, including 15-minute breaks and a half-hour lunch, and enjoy periodic company-provided lunches, holiday luncheons, and seasonal items like popsicles and cooling gear in the summer to help keep people comfortable on the job.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00/hr.
