Communications Specialist

Position Title: Contract Communications & Programs Professional Location: Hybrid Reports to: Executive Director About the Organization The Idaho Wheat Commission (IWC) is a self-governing, quasi-state agency funded by Idaho’s wheat growers with a mission to increase the profitability of Idaho wheat farmers by investing grower assessment dollars in market development, research, and grower education. IWC is governed by a board of five wheat farmers from around the state who are appointed by the Governor. Scope of Position and Ideal Candidate Profile The Idaho Wheat Commission is seeking a dynamic and creative independent Communications and Programs Professional to assist in fulfilling the mission of the Commission. The role requires a collaborative individual to work closely with Executive Director and other members of the IWC staff to develop and implement strategies focused on the Idaho wheat farmer individually, the Idaho wheat industry collectively, and the Commission specifically. It is anticipated that this role will require 10-20 hours per week on average. However, flexibility is necessary as travel to events throughout the year will require increased hours during travel weeks. The Communications and Programs Professional will be responsible for IWC digital and print communications and will organize, coordinate, and implement events and special projects. The Communications and Programs Professional is expected to be comfortable, yet professional interacting with farmer leaders, industry stakeholders, and customers. A successful candidate will be experienced in print and digital media platforms, social media trends and practices, and will be able to elevate Idaho’s wheat industry and the Idaho Wheat Commission through communications and programs. The ideal candidate will interact with members of the Idaho wheat community at field days, grower meetings, and on the farm to become a knowledgeable advocate for the interests of all wheat growers in the state. Key Responsibilities Develops, coordinates, and implements IWC programs and events Develops itineraries for and assists in hosting foreign and domestic trade teams Develops content and agendas for and implements IWC grower education programs Manages electronic newsletters, social media platforms, and oversees the management of the website Manages print materials, solicits and manages materials submitted for the IGPA quarterly magazine Cultivates relationships with media professionals throughout the state to improve coverage of Idaho’s wheat industry Develops and creates displays and public relations materials as needed Monitors issues affecting the wheat industry and grower profitability to provide educational opportunities for Idaho’s wheat growers Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree Excellent verbal and written communication skills including proper use of English grammar, usage, and mechanics Experience with and understanding of social media platforms, including target demographics and current trends Understanding of Idaho’s agriculture industry Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% Preferred Qualifications Experience in or understanding of wheat industry Experience setting, managing, and operating within a budget Experience with graphic design and design programs, such as Canva and/or Adobe Experience with multimodal media, including digital, print, and video formats Compensation Compensation will be $30-$50 per hour, depending on qualifications, paid as a 1099 independent contractor. #J-18808-Ljbffr Idaho Wheat Commission
