UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is hiring a Full Time, Exempt Physician Assistant to support Sridhar R. Rachala, MD, who specializes in Lower Extremity Joint Replacement & Reconstruction

Job Summary

• The Physician Assistant (PA) works under a supervising physician to provide excellent patient care in our orthopaedic practice. The PA will manage an independent schedule evaluating new, follow-up, and post-op patients, as well performing in-office therapeutic procedures and injections.

Job duties , to include, but not limited to:

• Obtain & document complete patient medical history.
• Review & interpret patient records to determine appropriate course of treatment.
• Implement treatment plans that have been reviewed and approved by supervising physician.
• Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising orthopaedic surgeon or other health care professionals.
• Order diagnostic tests, including but not limited to radiology exams and laboratory studies.
• Provide quality patient education; effectively explaining the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical procedures.
• Prescribe medications to include controlled substances following office protocol.
• Share on call responsibilities with supervising physician.

Expectations:

• Communication: Effective communication with office team and surgeon is paramount. Efficient, direct, caring communication with patients.
• Time management: Expected to participate in managing a busy hip and knee joint replacement practice.
  • Complete dictations timely.
  • Respond to patient queries within 24 hours
• Timely surgery chart preparation to ensure patient is medically optimized for procedure, including: medication continuation/stopping prior to surgery and after surgery, lab review, weight checks, clearance review when needed and directed by office staff, ensuring surgical schedule flow is optimized based on patient optimization, degree of case challenge, same discharge vs overnight stays, etc.
• Work as a team in collaboration with other team physicians, APPs, and office staff.

Qualifications

• Education Requirements
  • Master’s degree, along with successful completion of a NYS or ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant Program or Nurse Practitioner Program. Must Possess NYS licensure upon hire.
