Building CustodianPosition Goal: To provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children and staff at the building level. Maintains the housekeeping, building security, and preventive maintenance program for the building. Maintain the building (or building space) in a clean, attractive, healthy and safe condition.Suggested Qualifications:High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)Ability to understand and follow instructions; Basic Math and Writing skills, email and computer skillsAbility to give instructions and lead othersPhysically demanding job including but not limited to such tasks as walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, lifting, reaching, using hands to operate and use objects, tools and controls and to reach with hands and armsReports To: Building Principal in day to day operations and human relations. Maintenance Supervisor in repair, maintenance and cleaning procedures; Approval of sick leave/vacation/personal, etc.Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) Month contract Eight (8) hours per day with 30 minute unpaid lunchEvaluation: One co-operative review by the Building Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor.Performance Criteria:Personal & Physical QualitiesRecognizes own strengths and limitations (e.g.) asking for help when lifting heavy objects/repairing equipmentAccepts constructive suggestions and adapts to changeShows effort and enthusiasm in the quality and quantity of work accomplishedIs honest with peopleTakes pride in the work performed to keep the building neat and safeIs punctual and dependableAttends work regularlyMaintains a neat, clean appearancePossesses a positive attitude at all timesSees and initiates action in areas of needUses time wiselyHuman RelationsProfessional in behavior and deals with conflict in an appropriate mannerRealizes the importance of confidentiality in the jobGets along/cooperates with all staffIs courteous to students and parentsDirects concerns to the proper source/doesn't talk behind people's backsGeneral Objectives of the JobCompletes daily assignmentsLets need for additional supplies be known to the maintenance supervisor; orders supplies & controls inventorySecures the buildingDevelops a planned cleaning schedule for summer workMaintains a safe school environmentSees and initiates action in areas of needKeeps abreast of new cleaning proceduresUses time wiselyConfers with Principal regularly and/or on daily basisResponsibilities:Cleans and maintains assigned building space and assists in other spaces when neededMakes minor repairs and reports the need for other repairs to the maintenance supervisorProperly cleans all floor surfaces i.e. sweeps, scrubs, mops and buffs floorsDusts equipment and woodwork or other inside finishes and trimKeeps assigned restrooms thoroughly clean and sanitaryReplenishes supplies in a timely mannerEmpties and cleans waste receptaclesWashes windows and wallsAssists in moving and arranging furniture and equipmentMaintains equipment and materials used in the workDisposes of all trash in a manner established for the buildingResponsible to receive deliveries to the buildingChecks operation of freezers and refrigerators during vacation periodsIn emergencies perform tasks assigned by the immediate supervisorPerforms other related duties as may be assigned by the principal or supervisorKeeps front sidewalk and walkway clear of snowMonitors and assumes responsibility for energy-saving policies of the buildings and districtCleans up spills and "accidents" (e.g. product of illness)Replaces light bulbs, starters, fuses and tubesChecks exit lamps on a daily basis, replaces bulbs & batteries when necessaryChecks fire extinguishers monthlyOperates heating equipmentMonitors and assumes responsibility for energy-saving policies of the building and districtCleans range hood filters every two weeks to four weeksUnloads deliveries and distributes packagesResponsible to clean and set up for school assemblies, programs, etc.Completes all summer work in a timely fashion.Disinfects areas periodically or as directedOther duties as assigned
