We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join a leading design firm in New York City. This position will play an integral role in the financial management and performance of projects, partnering closely with firm leadership, Project Directors, and project teams.

\n

The Project Accountant will oversee project budgets, financial forecasting, staffing projections, contract compliance, and profitability across multiple concurrent projects. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who understands the financial side of complex architecture, interior design, engineering, or construction projects and enjoys working closely with both project teams and leadership.

\n

Key Responsibilities

\n

• Manage project budgets, financial forecasts, and profitability throughout the project lifecycle

\n

• Track project performance, including fees, costs, billing, utilization, and financial progress against budget

\n

• Maintain staffing and resource forecasts across active and upcoming projects

\n

• Review contracts and monitor projects for compliance with contractual and financial terms

\n

• Track additional services and change orders to ensure scope changes are properly documented and accounted for

\n

• Partner with Project Directors and leadership on budgeting, staffing, forecasting, and project financial performance

\n

• Develop and maintain financial reporting and forecasting tools that provide visibility into project and firm-wide performance

\n

• Analyze historical project data to support budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning

\n

• Identify potential budget, staffing, or profitability issues and proactively communicate them to project leadership

\n

\n

Qualifications

\n

• 3–5+ years of experience in project accounting, project controls, or financial project management

\n

• Experience within architecture, interior design, engineering, construction, or another AEC environment strongly preferred

\n

• Strong understanding of project budgets, contracts, billing, forecasting, staffing, and profitability

\n

• Experience managing financial information across multiple complex, multi-phase projects

\n

• Strong financial and data analysis skills with experience developing forecasting and reporting tools

\n

• Advanced Excel skills and experience with project management, accounting, and CRM systems

\n

• Experience with Ajera, Zoho, AI tools, and/or similar platforms preferred; Studio Designer experience is a plus

\n

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with project teams and senior leadership

\n

• PMP or equivalent certification is a plus
