Athletic Director

California's Premier Destination Community College Lake Tahoe Community College ( LTCC ) is announcing recruitment for a new Athletic Director. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Athletic Director will have the responsibility of providing organizational leadership and guidance for all athletic team activities and ensure adherence to the California Community College Athletic Association ( CCCAA ) compliance regulations. A robust Athletic Department has the strong potential for increasing and helping stabilize overall college enrollment. The Athletic Director will be responsible for student-athlete course success rates, timely degree completion, and supporting student athlete transfer to four-year institutions. This position will work closely with LTCC housing and basic needs departments to assist student-athletes in obtaining with these services. LTCC currently competes in men’s soccer and women’s soccer through the CCCAA in the Golden Valley Conference ( GVC ). Since launching, the soccer program has had enthusiastic support from both the college and the community, with strong fan attendance at home games. Between the 2017-2019 seasons, the LTCC women’s teams were ranked nationally at least once each season with GVC champion wins in 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2023 and made CCCAA Final Four appearances in 2018 and 2019. The men’s soccer program at LTCC won the GVC championship in 2014, 2015 and 2023, with national rankings in three seasons, 2014, 2015 and 2018, and made a CCCAA Final Four appearance in 2015. In Fall 2023, LTCC expanded its athletic offerings by adding Cross Country, and took home first place for both men’s and women’s individual. In Winter 2024, LTCC will add Long-Distance Track including the 3000m, the 5000m, and the 10,000m races. The Lake Tahoe Basin provides a large recruiting advantage for endurance athletes due to the high elevation training opportunities.

COMPENSATION :

Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $93,047 to $102,708 annually, dependent on education and experience. There is potential to reach $119,040 annually, through step advancement plus longevity when appropriate. In addition to base salary, this position qualifies for extra bilingual (Spanish), masters or doctorate pay. Benefits: Health and Welfare benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long term disability. Several plan options maintain a zero monthly premium cost from the employee and include full coverage of a gold-level medical plan that, on average, covers 80% of healthcare expenses for a standard population. LTCC also matches 27% of an eligible employee’s salary and contributes it into a CalPERS pension account for qualifying employees. Work-Life Balance: This is an exempt positions with work expectation of 40 hours per week or greater and 12 months per year, including night and weekend requirements depending game schedules. It is understood that the demands of the Athletic Director position will require more than eight (8) hours a day or forty (40) hours per workweek. This position may qualify for the telecommute pilot program, which allows employees the opportunity to telecommute for up to 20% of the work week. LTCC provides a generous leave package including 17 paid holidays per year plus 12 days vacation (with the potential to reach 24 days through years of service) and 12 days sick leave per year. Furthermore, LTCC has made a commitment to full closures during holiday breaks and several weekends adjoining holidays to provide employees the ability to take advantage of holiday and vacation usage. Description Definition: Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, plan, develop, organize, promote, coordinate and monitor the day-to-day activities and operations of all Lake Tahoe Community College ( LTCC ) athletic programs. The Athletic Director has responsibility for providing organizational leadership and guidance for all athletic team activities; support for community and booster activities; ensure adherence to California Community College Athletic Association ( CCCAA ) compliance regulations; and represent LTCC on conference committees and or boards that directly impact LTCC athletics. The Director develops, directs, manages and evaluates the curriculum and course offerings, including the faculty, coaches and staff and the facilities comprising the instructional areas. Distinguishing Characteristics: The Athletic Director is an Educational Administrator position as designated by the Board of Trustees of the Lake Tahoe Community College District. This position is employed in an academic position designated by the governing board of the district as having direct responsibility for supervising the operation of and formulating policy regarding the Athletics instructional program of the District. Representative Duties: Coordinate and collaborate with faculty and coaches to ensure curriculum and program meets regulatory requirements and community needs and state and federal regulations. Recommend teaching and coaching assignments with final approval by the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Plan, coordinate, and promote the activities and operations of the districts athletic and sports programs including intercollegiate teams, intramural teams, contract sports programs and activities, and other athletic/sport programs. Working with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, establish goals and objectives for the athletic program; determines strategies and standards to achieve goals. Monitor athletic program policies and procedures and ensure compliance with conference, state, federal, and other athletic related agencies’ regulations, rules and policies. Manage and enforce compliance with the policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the CCCAA and Title IX. Familiarizes and complies with the policies of LTCC . Complete and submit Gender Equity in Athletics compliance forms to the Federal Government and oversee other equity compliance matters. Coordinate efforts with the Title IX Coordinator and Superintendent/President to ensure mandated requirements. Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain student athletes. Support recruitment through attendance as needed at college fairs to promote the college and its sports/athletic programs. Implement best strategies for maintaining student‑athlete academic retention and success with an emphasis on student‑athlete eligibility, completion, and transfer. The Athletic Director will have performance expectations for student‑athlete course success rates, timely completion, and transfer to four‑year institutions. Create and oversee study hall, other student support functions, and work with each student‑athlete on their university transfer plan. Work in conjunction with housing, basic needs, and coaches to assist student‑athletes with these services. Create and maintain an environment that prioritizes sportsmanship and civility. Work with coaches in solving morale problems. Coordinate and supervise or delegate appropriate supervision for all aspects of game management for all sport/athletic contests (promotion, gate/concession staffing, referees/umpires, half‑time entertainment, announcers, table crews, doctor/ambulance, security, transportation, trainers, proper collection and accounting of monies, etc.) and assist in the resolution of problems as needed. Promote cooperative relationships with community and regional agencies as appropriate. Perform personnel functions (e.g., interviewing, evaluating, supervising, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget. Serve as public relations liaison for all routine media requests related to athletics. Create continuity across all web related content as it relates to athletics including but not limited to social media and district sites. Monitor updates and maintenance of the athletic website including social media posts. Ensure a consistent message is presented to the public regarding LTCC athletics and student‑athletes. Coordinate student‑athletes’ ability to enter into any endorsement deals pertaining to their name, image, and likeness ( NIL ) as they see fit; allowing these student‑athletes in to receive financial compensation for their NIL . Oversee the development and administration of the department budget; implement adjustments; maintain related records; maintain a variety of files, records, and databases; prepare a variety of reports and correspondence. Work closely with administrators, faculty, and students establishing and maintaining active participation with athletic academic committees. Represent the College at professional meetings and with external constituencies. Other Duties: Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum References Needed 3 Employment Standards Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to: Master of Arts or Science degree in a related field plus one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment (Ed Code § 53420). Knowledge of: Principles and practices of community college athletic programs. Laws, codes, contracts and regulations governing community college athletic programs and health clubs including district, league, and state rules. Game operations, NCAA rules, as well as Commission on Athletics rules and bylaws. Basic principles and practices of marketing sports programs to the community. Principles and practices of program budgeting and monitoring. Management and supervisory techniques and practices. Ability to: Work independently with little direction. Work a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends. Develop and manage a budget. Maneuver the set up and break down sports equipment as needed. Hold others accountable and be held accountable. Communicate with various constituents; general public; students; coaches; administrators. Meet schedules and timelines. Plan and organize work. Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds, and disabilities of community college students and staff.
