Customer Experience Library Operations Supervisor – MULTIPLE POSITIONS BELOW Pierce County Library System Hiring Range: $37.04 - $44.01 per hour; Pay Grade Range: $37.04 - $52.54 per hour Compensation Pierce County Library System offers a compensation program which recognizes qualifications and experience relevant to each position. The starting pay is typically within the hiring range based on the individual’s experience. The package also includes annual increases for each additional year of experience and tenure, up to the maximum defined by the pay grade range. Overtime eligibility applies only to non‑exempt FLSA positions. FLSA Status: Non‑exempt Position Status: Regular Union Status: Represented Hours Per Week: 40 Position Summary Oversees daily operations of assigned library locations within the Pierce County Library System. Leads, trains, supervises, coaches, develops, and evaluates staff, vendors, volunteers, and contractors to ensure high‑quality, customer‑focused service that aligns with the library’s strategic plan. Coordinates scheduling, payroll, budgeting, customer service, staff supervision, customer behavior management, and facilities coordination. Works with public service supervisors, support departments, and other library leaders to optimize resource use and staff capacity, maintain service standards, guide local collection efforts, and foster community relationships. Essential Job Functions Library Operations (30%) – Coordinate daily operations across the region, manage scheduling, approve payroll entries and leave requests, ensure policy compliance, and oversee branch and regional initiatives. Employee Supervision & Development (25%) – Hire, train, coach, evaluate, and discipline staff; support growth and morale; communicate changes effectively. Service Delivery (20%) – Model high‑quality customer service, resolve patron interactions, promote inclusive spaces and services, guide information and reader advisory services, support collection maintenance and merchandising, uphold intellectual freedom, and manage customer complaints. Facilities Coordination (10%) – Oversee maintenance of branch facilities, grounds, and equipment; submit work orders and coordinate completion. Fiscal Management (10%) – Track and monitor budgets, produce reports, and align spending with system priorities. General Duties (5%) – Raise public concerns regarding waste, inefficiency, corruption, discrimination, or safety; participate in system‑wide initiatives and committees; develop and implement policies and procedures. Secondary Responsibilities – Occasionally direct volunteer work and collaborate with other teams and committees. Three to five years of library or customer service experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity. Must pass a background check. Ability to work evenings and weekends and adapt to schedule changes. Technology Requirements Navigate basic electronic record creation and storage (e.g., timecard/HRIS, performance review, network drive). Use basic office equipment (PC, printer, phone, fax, mouse, security alarm). Basic keyboard and alphanumeric data entry skills. Intermediate PC navigation skills in a Windows environment; ability to connect to a device and print. Navigate, search, and use basic web functions and applications. Intermediate MS Office Suite skills (Outlook, Word, Excel). Collect, audit, and analyze data to support decision making. Experience with e‑book/e‑collection use. Experience with integrated library systems, inventory or data management systems. Document instructions, troubleshoot, and teach basic MS Office Suite functions. Preferred Qualifications Advanced troubleshooting and teaching of technology tools. Training curriculum development. Experience with presentation software. Knowledge of work order systems. Experience with HR systems. Physical Requirements Lift up to 35 pounds occasionally. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and reaching. Use standard office equipment. Lift and carry library materials and push/pull loaded carts. Work environment involves everyday risks requiring normal safety precautions. Travel Requirements Travel within Pierce County for support, supervision, meetings, training, or events.
