Job Description Guided by the Agency's mission "To reduce recidivism among those we touch," the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is looking for a dedicated security minded professional to assume the responsibilities of a Parole Program Specialist (Sex Offender Specialist). ***HEADQUARTER COUNTY TO BE DETERMINED BASED ON SELECTED APPLICANT*** What You'll Do: Serves under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent as a Sex Offender Specialist. Serves as parole and or probation specialist in area of sex offender programming and reentry. Acts independently and makes recommendations when necessary to effect change. Provides direct reentry programming services, e.g., group interventions, to offenders under supervision with Adult Parole Authority. Meets with offenders, assessing for risk and providing various levels of intervention. Participates in community reentry management teams or ORAS staffing to provide programming intervention recommendations or programming progress information. Electronically documents Interventions and progress of interventions. Discusses sex offender cases with parole officers, senior parole officers and supervisors to determine appropriate interventions, risk levels and special sex offender specific conditions of supervision. Actively works to assist field officers in acquiring housing, employment, and treatment/programming services for offenders. Provides crisis intervention as needed. Serves as a resource to regional staff on matters involving reentry of sex offenders. Assists in identification, development, and submission of sex offender programming for use in re-entry. Provides guidance to Unit Supervisors, Senior Parole Officers, and Parole Officers related to sex offender risk. May assist during violation/sanction process as appropriate. Identifies and assists in delivery of training in area of treatment, investigations, interviewing and laws/legislation as it relates to sexual offenders & evidence-based practices throughout the state as needed. Acts as liaison between institutions and regional staff to coordinate offenders' interventions, reentry and discharge planning, which may include housing. Interprets and provides instruction on agency policies regarding sex offender supervision. Prepares, reviews and/or oversees preparation of publications, reports, or other work-related documentation. Develops and maintains data regarding specialized treatment programs, oversees staff reports, maintains records involving these programs. Chairs or participates on workgroups, committees, or task forces to identify and resolve problems to improve delivery of services to staff and offenders. Creates monthly statistical reports Develops and maintains community relations through partnerships and cross training with other agencies. May participate in internal management audits and serve on the Bureau of Internal Standards and Compliance audit team. Provides quality assurance on ODRC led Evidence Based initiatives. Monitors quality of reports and services delivered by field staff through use of management information systems, data, and direct observations. Attends trainings to maintain SME status and/or certifications, case planning, interview skills, and any agency promoted evidence-based practices. Completes special assignments as directed by the Regional Administrator. Or completion of undergraduate core program in criminology, criminal justice, law enforcement, sociology, social work, psychology or related field; 48 mos. trg. or 48 mos. exp. in community corrections to include report writing, offender treatment referrals, offender service delivery & participation in corrections/criminal justice agencies operations & investigations; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. providing work direction &/or training; valid Ohio Driver's license. Or completion of graduate core program in criminology, criminal justice, law enforcement, sociology, social work, psychology or related field; 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in community corrections to include report writing, offender treatment referrals, offender service delivery & participation in correction/criminal justice agencies operations & investigations; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. providing work direction &/or training; valid Ohio Driver's license. Or 12 mos. exp. as Senior Parole Officer, 69812; valid Ohio Driver's license. Or 24 mos. exp. as Parole Officer, 69810 or 69811; valid Ohio Driver's license. Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. Job Skills: Criminology/Criminal Justice Policy and Eligibility The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. An individual assessment of an applicant's prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is prohibited from hiring: Individuals who have engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other confinement facility; have been civilly or administratively adjudicated, or convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, implied threats of force, or if the victim did not or was unable to consent; Individuals convicted of soliciting or providing support for an act of terrorism, terrorism, or money laundering to support terrorism; Individuals who have been convicted of or pled guilty to a felony where a direct correlation exists between the position and prior criminal behavior. (example: individuals convicted of a felony involving fraud, deceit, or theft from holding a position that has substantial management or control over the property of a state agency.) The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to an appointment to test for illegal drug use. The State will decline to extend a final offer of employment to any applicant with a verified positive test result. Also, an applicant with a positive test result will not be considered for any position with the State of Ohio for a period of one year. NOT APPLICABLE TO CURRENT STATE EMPLOYEES.
