Field Service Supervisor

Job Title: Field Service Supervisor Position reports to the Region Operations Manager or Field Service Supervisor. This is a full‑time, hourly, non‑exempt role. Job Summary Supervise, train, and assist field service technicians/engineers, managing all aspects of the team’s field work. Duties include customer communication, sales, job estimating, scheduling, reporting, and billing. Perform electrical apparatus work onsite—testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs—as well as troubleshooting, training, and establishing lock‑out/tag‑out procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist management with developing training, career paths, and succession planning for team members. Directly supervise teams of 4–6 field technicians. Develop work plans for the maintenance and testing of electrical apparatus per established standards, scopes of work, and customer requests. Ensure timely delivery of customer reports and billing information. Actively engage in customer communication and business development, including recommendations for addressing deficiencies discovered during maintenance and inspections. Analyze projects and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and profitability while meeting customer expectations. Plan and participate in safety meetings, training, and audits. Support management in planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects, aligning with organizational goals. Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment used in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities. Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues. Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all substation components. Assist with transformer, cable, and circuit breaker testing, including specialized measurements such as TTR, insulation resistance, and gas analysis. Test both electromechanical and solid‑state relays. Lead safety meetings and develop training programs. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Familiarity with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA, DOT regulations, and safety laws. Ability to address complex mechanical and electrical problems. Strong theoretical understanding of electrical power systems for apparatus testing. Experience supervising large‑scale projects. Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and multitasking skills. Proficiency in PC applications: email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office. Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment. Knowledge of DTAF and PowerDB is preferred; training will be provided. Reliability in punctuality for work assignments, meetings, and training sessions. Organizational skills for timely reporting of time, expenses, and status reports. Responsibility for maintaining tools, test equipment, and vehicles, ensuring up‑to‑date calibration. Work Environment Willingness to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office. Corporate business hours Monday–Friday 7:30 am–4:30 pm; additional hours outside business hours may be required. Work in close proximity to live electrical substations. Willingness to work overtime, nights, weekends, and some holidays. Ability to travel on overnight, multi‑day, out‑of‑town projects. Availability for emergency on‑call duty, responding to customer emergencies promptly. Education and Work Experience High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology or military experience preferred. Minimum of 5 years experience in substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning. Minimum of 5 years experience in direct supervision within a field service industry. Ability to achieve NETA Level II certification within 6 months of employment. Project management experience, supporting planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects. Other Requirements Pass a pre‑employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check. Pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test, including periodic random testing. Valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain a combined vehicle endorsement up to 26 k lbs. Ability to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs. Willingness to obtain company‑paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30‑hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
