Community Engagement Coordinator Full Time San Fernando, Ca, US Salary Range: $28.00 To $32.30 Hourly Position Summary The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing community engagement activities for the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians (FTBMI) Community-Designed Health, Wellness, and Tribal Governance Ecosystem project. The position serves as the primary point of contact between FTBMI, Tribal citizens, community members, community partners, and stakeholders participating in project planning and development activities. The Coordinator will facilitate community-driven decision-making processes, organize engagement events, document community priorities, and support development of the Tribal Health & Wellness Implementation Framework, Health and Wellness Code expansion, and future Tribal healthcare entity planning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Community Engagement and Outreach Develop and implement community engagement strategies that promote broad participation by Tribal citizens and stakeholders. Recruit participants for community listening sessions, focus groups, workshops, surveys, and planning meetings. Build relationships with Tribal citizens, elders, youth, families, cultural leaders, healthcare providers, and community organizations. Conduct outreach through Tribal communications, social media, events, newsletters, and direct contact. Ensure community participation reflects diverse perspectives and priorities. Planning and Facilitation Coordinate and facilitate community meetings, listening sessions, focus groups, workshops, and advisory council meetings. Develop meeting agendas, presentation materials, surveys, and facilitation guides. Create opportunities for meaningful community input into project activities and policy development. Facilitate culturally appropriate engagement processes that honor Tribal traditions and values. Health and Wellness Planning Support Assist with implementation of the Tribal Health & Wellness Implementation Framework. Gather and document community feedback regarding wellness services, behavioral health priorities, healthcare access barriers, and health governance issues. Support planning activities related to expansion of the FTBMI Health and Wellness Code. Assist with community engagement efforts related to establishing a Tribal healthcare entity and future healthcare system development. Advisory Council Coordination Coordinate activities of the Community Health Advisory Council. Schedule meetings and maintain records of discussions and recommendations. Facilitate communication between advisory council members, project staff, and Tribal leadership. Track recommendations and assist with implementation follow-up. Data Collection and Documentation Collect and maintain participant data, attendance records, surveys, feedback forms, and engagement metrics. Prepare summaries of community input and planning outcomes. Assist with project reports, performance measures, and grant reporting requirements. Maintain confidentiality of participant information and records. Partnership Development Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and public agencies. Coordinate participation of external partners in project activities where appropriate. Represent FTBMI at community meetings, conferences, and outreach events. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Development, Social Work, Psychology, Public Administration, Communications, Native American Studies, or a related field. Associate degree and equivalent experience may be considered. Minimum three years of experience in community engagement, outreach, program coordination, public participation, or community development. Experience working with Native American communities, Tribal governments, or Indigenous organizations preferred. Experience facilitating meetings and community discussions. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Valid California driver’s license and ability to travel locally. Prefered Qualifications Experience conducting community-based planning initiatives. Familiarity with public health, wellness, behavioral health, or human services programs. Experience working with advisory councils, boards, or stakeholder groups. Knowledge of Tribal sovereignty, self-determination, and Native American community issues. Experience supporting federally funded projects and grant reporting requirements. Fluency in facilitation, consensus building, and conflict resolution techniques. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of community engagement and participatory planning principles. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders. Strong facilitation and public presentation skills. Ability to organize and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously. Strong written communication and documentation skills. Ability to collect, analyze, and summarize qualitative and quantitative feedback. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms, and survey tools. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Strong understanding of culturally responsive and community-centered engagement approaches. Working Conditions Work is performed in office, community, and meeting environments. Frequent interaction with community members, Tribal leadership, partner organizations, and project staff. Evening and weekend meetings may be required. Local travel throughout the northern Los Angeles County service area is required.
