Salary ranges from $43.30 to $58.13 hourly for officers with at least one year of experience in their respective field. The Juneau Police Department is centrally located in the Lemon Creek area and has plenty of free, convenient parking in a secure parking lot. JPD is a secure facility with mandatory keycard access for all employees.

Patrol officers work 12-hour shifts and rotate between days and night on a quarterly basis. Officers can laterally transfer to units like the Criminal Investigations Unit, Drug Unit, School Resource Officer, Airport Officer, and Downtown Officer. They can also have ancillary duties, such as, SWAT, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Crisis Negotiation Team, Accident Reconstruction Team, Drug Recognition Expert, Firearms Instructor, Arrest Control Tactics Instructor, Less-than-Lethal Instructor, and many others.

The selection process includes submitting a CBJ application, an oral board interview, APSC reciprocity approval, conditional job offer, background/polygraph/psychological testing, medical examination and controlled substances screening, and final job offer. As part of the selection process, applicants are subject to a background investigation that includes a criminal background review, fingerprinting, investigative review, and polygraph examination. All information provided by the applicant will be verified. Applicants who materially misrepresent any information provided in the employment process will be excluded from further consideration or dismissed if already employed.

This recruitment is open and continuous. There are currently 11 vacant police officer positions. Once all vacancies are filled, this recruitment will be used to create an eligible list to fill future vacancies which may occur within the next twelve months subject to an interview and re-evaluation of the candidate's current job performance. At the discretion of the Chief of Police, the eligible list may be extended up to two years from the effective date.
