Surgical Assistant Summary: The Southeast Permanente Medical Group (TSPMG) is one of Georgia’s largest independent, physician-owned, multi-specialty medical groups. More than 700 physicians and 300 associate practitioners work together in a unique integrated care model to provide high-quality care to Kaiser Permanente members. Our focus is on long-term health, effective prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Care is delivered across 40+ specialties at 26 medical offices featuring state-of-the-art equipment, labs, imaging services, and pharmacies. We also provide surgical services and around-the-clock care at some of the area’s top hospitals. We invite applications for a Surgical Assistant to assist our Surgeons at one of our three main surgical locations: Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital Emory Decatur Hospital Atlanta Outpatient Surgical Center What You Can Expect: Provides technical assistance to the surgeon in completing surgical procedures safely and expeditiously Checks the daily surgery schedule with the O.R., the Kaiser surgery scheduler, or the surgeon Reviews patient chart to obtain patient history and physical, verify consent, and confirm procedure Checks with the O.R. staff to answer questions about the surgery procedure or any special equipment needed Transfers patient from stretcher to O.R. table Assists during induction of anesthesia Participates in “Time Out” or “Pause” to verify correct consent, patient, date of birth, procedure, and surgeon Preps and drapes patient Cleans patient and applies proper dressing at the end of procedure Transfers patient from O.R. table to stretcher for transport to recovery Minimum Requirements: Graduate of an accredited program in Surgical Assisting recognized by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) Certification in a Professional Association that certifies Surgical Assistants (SA’s), including: National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA) Association of Surgical Assistants (ASA) National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) General knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations as they pertain to biohazards General knowledge of hospital procedures and principles Must be a full-time resident of the state of Georgia BLS Certification TSPMG Clinicians: Are committed to providing care of the highest quality Practice evidence-based medicine Provide excellence in service Are honest and ethical and show integrity in their actions Demonstrate accountability for their performance Are dedicated to the success of the team Are entrusted with maintaining the affordability of care We Provide You: Competitive compensation which considers an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, training, market data, and other relevant factors Comprehensive benefits including medical and dental insurance, a pension plan and 401(k), life insurance, and generous paid time off Complete professional liability coverage, including tail coverage, provided at no cost Free access to a Kaiser Insurance plan for employees – minimal cost to add dependents Generous time off Many additional benefits that support your work/life balance About the Area: Atlanta, our home for more than 40 years, is a thriving metropolis that blends southern charm with modern art, music, and culture — where Southern charm meets big-city energy.
