This position will provide legal advice and counsel on litigation matters to the member companies of Great American Insurance Group. The successful candidate will be a professional with excellent communication and analytical skills who complements our existing team.Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support these values, the person hired for this position will be expected to work in the office four days a week (Tuesday-Thursday required), with the flexibility to work one day remotely (Monday or Friday). This position is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer who is looking for a dynamic legal career while maintaining work/life balance.Essential Job Functions and ResponsibilitiesCounsels business clients on litigation and pre-litigation matters arising from the Company’s property and casualty insurance operations, from underwriting to claims to general business matters.Develops relationships throughout the Company so that legal advice is tailored to the unique needs of each of our specialty insurance divisions.Manages, and collaborates with, outside counsel representing the Company in insurance policy–related and general commercial litigation.Participates in mediations, negotiates settlements, and prepares settlement and other litigation-related agreements.Counsels business and corporate services operations on regulatory matters associated with litigation.Collaboratively works with other members of the Legal team to achieve optimal results for our business clients.Partners with other shared services groups to advise business clients on litigation-related questions.Monitors legal and regulatory issues and identifies and assesses trends and emerging risks.Handles other matters within P&C Legal as needed.Performs other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsA JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdictionAt least three years of litigation experience in a law firm setting.Prior experience in insurance is helpful but not required.Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.Common sense, good judgment, and solution-oriented attitude toward legal issues.Compensation commensurate with experience.Business Unit:Property & Casualty LegalBenefits: We offer competitive benefits packages for full-time and part-time employees*.
