Physician Assistant, In-Patient / OB/GYN Services

Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Assistant, In‑Patient / OB/GYN Services. In this role the successful candidate will be responsible for provision, coordination, and assurance of comprehensive medical care, performing therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures on the designated inpatient or outpatient population, and assuming delegatory responsibilities assigned by a supervising physician privileged as Medical Staff of NYU Langone Health. Job Responsibilities Support the mission, philosophy, standards, goals, and objectives of the institution, department, and clinical service. Educate patients and families to facilitate healthy adjustment to new or changed health patterns. Evaluate treatment and health‑care plans for effectiveness and modify them per clinical standards and practice protocols. Perform delegated clinical duties effectively and efficiently. Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges. Prescribe medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol. Prescribe in‑patient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Demonstrate physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities. Maintain membership in professional specialty organizations (desirable). Facilitate group processes and work cohesively and collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Apply excellent interpersonal, communication, creative problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills. Have prior experience as a physician assistant or physician assistant fellowship experience (preferred). Have at least two years of clinical rotation in various medical, surgical, and other specialty areas. Coordinate implementation of clinical research studies or clinical trials, including patient screening, enrollment, and data collection. Monitor and trend cost‑effectiveness of the position, particularly as it relates to efficiency and performance indicators established for the service. Assist in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable. Collaborate with nursing and other disciplines to develop and implement clinical studies within the area of expertise. Use evidence‑based health‑care literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes within the designated service. Participate in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols for quality and performance improvement. Serve as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other health professionals. Maintain PA board certification. Maintain the annual CME requirement for re‑appointment and privileging. Maintain current expertise in the area of practice. Promote professional growth and development in clinical role. Function as a respectful member of the health‑care team. Participate in designated activities related to professional physician assistant practice standards. Demonstrate knowledge of the organization’s Core Values and incorporate them into the performance of responsibilities. Facilitate patient throughput and process efficiency during admission and discharge. Facilitate continuity of care across services, such as home care, other facilities, and appointments with MDs. Provide consultation about therapeutic regimens to nursing staff responsible for patient care in the hospital setting. Collaborate with the attending physician to maintain timely and appropriate communication with family members, house staff, other disciplines, and ancillary services. Develop and revise interdisciplinary and hospital standards, patient and family education materials as relevant to area of practice and expertise. Develop and implement therapeutic plans of care for groups of patients in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and attending physician. Plan and organize care to meet individual patient needs and ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols, pathways, and other means. Additional Position Specific Responsibilities: Physician Assistants working at the Helen L. & Martin S. Kimmel Hyperbaric and Advanced Wound Healing Center will have additional duties as outlined in the Role of the Physician Assistant policy for the Hyperbaric Center. Minimum Qualifications Physician Assistant Bachelor's Degree (BA‑PA). Current New York State Physician Assistant License. NCCPA Board Certification. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association. Preferred Qualifications Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) through the American Heart Association or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (may be required based on privileges). Membership in pertinent professional organizations.
