Head of Strategic Operations

Location: Portland (relocation available for the right fit) Hybrid: 3 days/week onsite Scope: Fulltime salaried position with benefits Head of Strategic Operations We’re seeking a senior strategic leader to shape and elevate an agency’s strategy function across brand, campaign, content, social, and performance work. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who can set vision, build systems, and guide teams through complex, fast-moving client environments while helping drive business growth. The ideal candidate brings deep agency experience and is comfortable balancing executive-level thinking with hands‑on execution. You’ll oversee a team of strategists, mentor emerging leaders, and help define the frameworks, briefs, and planning models that keep cross-functional work aligned and effective. You’ll also serve as a key strategic partner in client conversations, new business efforts, and high-priority initiatives. In this role, you will lead strategic direction across integrated marketing programs, ensuring insights translate into clear positioning, messaging, campaign planning, and measurable performance outcomes. You’ll partner closely with creative, account, and media teams to keep strategy embedded throughout the full lifecycle of the work—from pitch through execution and reporting. The strongest candidates will bring significant agency experience, ideally complemented by brand-side exposure, and will be skilled at navigating fast‑paced environments, moving quickly between pitch development, RFP responses, and complex client needs; experience with major sportswear or lifestyle brands is a plus. We’re looking for someone who thrives in an ambitious, growth-oriented environment and is energized by building, evolving, and scaling a strategic discipline. The right person is confident navigating ambiguity, quick to synthesize information, and skilled at turning complexity into clarity. Strong presentation skills, executive presence, and the ability to inspire confidence with both internal teams and clients are essential. Qualified candidates should have extensive experience in brand strategy, communications, or integrated marketing, along with a proven track record of leading teams and developing strategy for full-funnel campaigns. Experience with research, insight development, audience segmentation, messaging strategy, and creative briefing is important. A blend of strategic rigor, collaborative leadership, and business-minded thinking will be key to success in this role.
