Litigation Paralegal - Civil Defense

This role is ideal for a motivated paralegal who values ownership of their work, meaningful involvement in litigation, and working closely with attorneys without the rigidity or bureaucracy of a larger firm.

The Role

As a Litigation Paralegal, you will play a central role in supporting civil defense matters from inception through resolution, working directly with attorneys and contributing to the overall litigation strategy.

You will:

• Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and correspondence
• Manage document review and assist with e-discovery processes
• Conduct legal and factual research to support case development
• Maintain and organize case files, ensuring accuracy and accessibility
• Track deadlines and ensure compliance with court rules and scheduling orders
• Coordinate with clients, experts, and third-party vendors
• Assist in preparing for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials

This is a hands-on litigation role—paralegals are actively engaged in the work and are a critical part of case execution.

Expectations & Workflow

• Annual billable expectation: 1,600 hours
• Billable expectations are designed to support high-quality work and a sustainable pace
• Work closely with attorneys on active litigation matters in a team-oriented environment
• Caseloads and assignments are structured to promote efficiency, organization, and strong work product
• Paralegals are trusted with substantive responsibilities—not limited to administrative tasks
• Success is measured by attention to detail, reliability, and contribution to case outcomes—not volume alone

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a litigation paralegal in civil litigation
• Strong skills in legal document drafting, organization, and file management
• Familiarity with litigation procedures in California state and/or federal courts
• Experience with document review and e-discovery tools preferred
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to manage deadlines and work collaboratively with attorneys and staff
• Paralegal certificate required
• Experience in personal injury or civil defense matters is a plus
• Spanish language proficiency is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $80,000+, commensurate with experience
