Overview HR Business Partner East Africa — Based in Nairobi, Kenya or Kampala, Uganda. Up to 30% of international travel. Reports to Head of HR, Viya Health Africa. Responsibilities Purpose of the Role We are looking for a Human Resources Business Partner to provide support to Viya Health in achieving its organizational objectives. This position is a key member of the team and will be responsible for providing operational support to stakeholders within Viya Health East Africa in relation to the employee life cycle. The mission is to partner with the business to ensure that HR services, such as yearly HR processes, Talent Development, Recruitment, and Employee Relations, are executed with a continuous improvement mindset while maintaining a human touch. The Human Resources Business Partner will align HR efforts to business needs, including organization assessment and design, team efficiency, and people issues. The role oversees the overall management and implementation of Viya Health’s HR Policies, Procedures, Guidelines, and Tools. The individual is responsible for selection and hiring of the team in East Africa and leading HR functions such as workforce planning, recruitment, staff administration, staff development, and more. Key Responsibilities: HR Planning: Implement the HR strategy for Viya Health in line with organizational goals and objectives. Devise and implement metrics as needed. Consult, advise, and coach management and their teams on identifying, defining, and implementing HR solutions to address business and departmental needs per global, regional, and local HR strategies, goals, legislation, regulations, and SOPs. Hiring and Recruitment: Participate in workforce planning and job evaluation to meet organizational needs and ensure compliance with local laws and global recruitment guidelines; support recruiting managers in the recruitment process. Oversee full-cycle recruitment and directly recruit for positions at all levels; use traditional and innovative methods to hire top talent. Facilitate recruitment and selection according to Viya Health policies and procedures. Coordinate recruitment and orientation/transition of new or transferring staff. Review and approve job descriptions and position requests; ensure accuracy and consistency. Coordinate vacancy postings in internal and external media as appropriate. Coordinate interviews and provide interview outcome summaries. Review all job offers and contracts to ensure internal equity. HR Administration and Compliance: Oversee HR-related administrative duties and ensure compliance with legal and government reporting requirements. Ensure Viya Health compliance with labor laws and minimization of legal exposure. Develop and maintain the HR Handbook; review policies and procedures and make recommendations. File and update office personnel and statutory documents; maintain confidential staff information. Lead exit management to ensure smooth transitions for departing employees. Act as an ambassador for Viya Health: Standards for Business Ethics & Code of Conduct; escalate and follow up on code of conduct issues. As needed, liaise with local legal counsel on HR issues requiring legal interpretation. Ensure compliance by leadership and managers with HR practices and local regulatory requirements, standards, and guidelines. Compensation and Benefits Management: Facilitate administration of staff benefits and compensation per HR policies. Ensure timely processing of monthly payroll documentation with accuracy. Ensure exit clearance processes are completed before final dues are processed. Work with the finance team to orient staff on monthly timesheet submissions. Ensure compliance with compensation principles during recruitment and promotions. Performance Management: Lead the performance management process, including annual reviews, goal setting training, and development activities; work with managers and employees one-on-one. Coordinate timely completion of annual performance evaluations and merit processes. Advise, train, and coach managers on performance management requirements. Employee Relations and Discipline: Lead employee relations with professionalism; conduct investigations to resolve workplace issues. Act as an impartial mediator in disciplinary procedures and ensure fairness and legal compliance. Maintain constructive employee-employer relationships and advise on disciplinary actions as appropriate. Self-Welfare: Identify areas for continuous improvement with management. Stay up to date with SOPs and relevant industry standards. Represent employees in cases of litigation or related matters when needed. Develop plans to support staff well-being and foster a positive working environment. Engage in building trust with staff at all levels. Qualifications Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent. At least five (5) years’ experience in a senior HR role, with two (2) years in a supervisory position. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted. Advanced knowledge of HR disciplines including development, change management, recruitment, branding, compensation, employee relations, compliance, performance management, and East Africa employment law. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills with the ability to implement best-practice HR management in a fast-paced environment. Excellent customer service, relationship-building, and collaboration skills; results-oriented. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities; able to develop client-centered solutions. Ability to translate HR policies and recommendations to non-HR professionals. Excellent written and verbal communication; conflict management skills. Proficient in MS Office; experience with HRIS and payroll systems. Knowledge of organizational structures, workflows, and local regulations. Knowledge of Labour Regulations and industry trends. Ability to operate independently, drive change, and innovate. Ability to handle confidential information professionally. Motivated with demonstrated ability to influence, lead, and collaborate.
